Curt Styres Brings Pro Hockey to Six Nations

(Ohsweken, Ontario - October 2, 2010)... Rochester Americans Owner Curt Styres is bringing the first professional hockey game to Six Nations today as the Amerks host the Toronto Marlies at the Gaylord Powless Arena. The American Hockey League game is a 6:00 p.m. start.

Admission for the contest is $7.00 per person, while children 12 and under are free. Amerks Owner Curt Styres will donate the proceeds to Six Nations minor youth hockey programs. Tickets for the preseason game are available at the Gaylord Powless Arena (1738 - 4th Line Rd.) in Ohsweken, Ontario.

Former NHL Coach of the Year and Amerks VP of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan (Garden River Ojibwa First Nation), Amerks Head Coach Chuck Weber, Assistant Coach Jason Cipolla, and AHL and Amerks Hall of Famer Jody Gage will join local hockey coaches for a hockey clinic from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Before the game, Nolan will join Styres, former Toronto Maple Leafs captain and NHL Hall of Famer George Armstrong, and former Boston Bruin and Mohawk Stan Jonathan for the ceremonial faceoff.

Last night, the Toronto Marlies scored five unanswered goals to rally from a 3-2 deficit en route to a 7-3 win over the Amerks at Bob Fallis Arena. The game was the first-ever American Hockey League contest to be played in Bradford, Ontario, and the first of back-to-back exhibition tilts between the two teams this weekend.

The Rochester Americans will open its 55th season in the AHL against the Toronto Marlies at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9th at Ricoh Coliseum. Rochester will make its home debut on Sunday, October 10th when the Amerks host the back-to-back Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears at 5:05 p.m. as part of the American Hockey League's 75th Anniversary celebration.
