Club de Foot Montreal News Release

MONTREAL - As part of the club's 20th anniversary celebrations, the Impact launched on Thursday a new section on its website dedicated to the club's history.

As such, the Impact unveiled a new page honouring the club's inaugural season. Photos, videos, interviews, newspaper clippings, a full summary, the roster and standings can be found on the page dedicated to 1993 - with an additional page added each week until the end of the season - paying homage to the 19 additional years of Impact history.

1993 Season

"I'd like to remind everyone that behind every team, there is also its history. Ours started 20 years ago," declared Impact president Joey Saputo, at the 2013 season launch back on February 27.

"In a province whose motto is Je me souviens, we have a duty to remember, even in the world of sports," said Martin Smith, retired Journal de Montreal reporter, who covered the team from its inception in 1993 and who has worked on this project for the last couple of months. "The past helps explain the future. The Impact's immediate success in MLS is due in part to the lessons learned and all the expertise acquired over the last 20 years."

2004 championship honoured

Saturday, as part of the game day festivities versus the Philadelphia Union at Stade Saputo, the Impact will recognize the 2004 championship team, as a number of players from that year will be introduced to the crowd on the field before the game.

"Immediately following the club's re-launch in 2002, a number of important changes were made to our roster and we created a solid base of local players who believed in the team," added Nick De Santis, the Impact head coach in 2004. "Those were the good years with Rochester and we beat Seattle in the final. This championship was special for the club and the city, but was also amazing for me as a first year coach."

Anniversary cake

In partnership with patisserie Les Délices Lafrenaie, la Fédération des producteurs d'"ufs de consommation du Québec and Saputo, the Impact will be presenting its anniversary cake (peanut-free). Spectators in attendance will get a taste for free prior to the start of the game, near the main entrance.

Just before kickoff, the organization has another surprise in store for all those in attendance. Don't miss out!
