SAINT JOHN, NB --- The Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators, announced yesterday afternoon that Saint John Sea Dogs alumnus Robert Mayer has been recalled and re-assigned to Montreal. This is the first time in Sea Dogs history that a former player has been called up to the National Hockey League.

Currently is in his rookie season in professional hockey, Mayer spent time earlier this year with the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Canadiens' American Hockey League affiliate. A native of Zurich, Switzerland, Mayer has played in 25 games with Cincinnati in 2009-10, amassing a 16-8 record to go along with a pair of shutouts and a 2.68 G.A.A. The 20-year old goaltender has won four of his last five starts for the Cyclones while posting a 1.75 G.A.A. - the second-best mark in the ECHL for the month of February.

Prior to joining the Canadiens' organization, Mayer spent two full seasons with the Sea Dogs. In 89 career QMJHL appearances, the European-born net minder recorded a 42-39 record in addition to a 3.41 G.A.A. and 0.893 SV%. Saint John originally selected Mayer with the third overall pick at the 2007 CHL Import Draft.
