Monterey Bay FC News Release
SEASIDE, Calif. - Monterey Bay Football Club (Monterey Bay F.C.) and the City of Seaside raised the MBFC flag high above Seaside City Hall on Tuesday afternoon, July 11. Seaside Mayor Ian Oglesby, City Manager Jaime Fontes, the Seaside City Council, and other city staff members were in attendance for the momentous occasion alongside Monterey Bay F.C. Head Coach Frank Yallop, Assistant Coach Ramiro Corrales, Union players, and several members of the Club's front office.
With fans in attendance cheering on the Crisp and Kelp as the flag was raised, the ceremony marked the beginning of an advanced relationship with the City of Seaside. "I've been a Union fan since day one," explained City of Seaside Council Member Alex Miller. "I attended the first game at Cardinale Stadium and I was so impressed with the venue and team - it's a community builder. And we want to help build that community here in Seaside. I knew that the city needed to get involved. The city needs to be part of this movement to support the team and bring the people of Seaside together."
To signify the city's support of the Club, two new traditions have now officially formed. The City of Seaside will begin to raise the MBFC flag on match days, as well as light City Hall in the Club's established and identifiable Crisp Blue on nights in which the team earns a victory. As the ceremony came to a close, the Club gifted a team-signed ball to Mayor Oglesby. In addition, a Monterey Bay F.C. flag will hang inside the City of Seaside Council Chambers.
Miller continued, "I've seen so many people walking around our streets with Union sweatshirts, and t-shirts, and hats, that I knew it was time to make it official that the city is supportive of the Union. This is the start of a collaboration that is going to last a long time. It means getting together, doing events together, and eventually hosting that championship parade here in Seaside."
