March 31, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
Cody Corbett scored the overtime winner for the Lake Erie Monsters (31-26-6-4) at 4:47 of the extra frame, propelling the Monsters past the Milwaukee Admirals (32-25-7-5) by a 2-1 score. The Monsters have won three straight games, and are now three points behind the eighth place Chicago Wolves, who currently own the final playoff spot in the American Hockey League's Western Conference. Andrew Agozzino also scored for the Monsters, extending his franchise record point streak to 12 games. The Monsters host Milwaukee tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
Agozzino stretched his point streak to 12-games, adding to a Monsters franchise record and adding to what was already the longest point streak in the AHL this season, when he scored to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead at 3:46 of the first period. Agozzino deflected a Bruno Gervais shot from the center of the blue line for his team-leading 23rd goal of the season. Ben Youds also assisted on the goal, which made Agozzino the first player to score 60 goals in a Monsters uniform.
Former Monster Gary Steffes deflected a Colton Sissons shot with 9:59 left in the third period that slipped past Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard and tied the game at 1-1 for the Admirals. Steffes' goal ultimately forced overtime.
At 4:47 of overtime, Corbett walked to the top of the left circle after taking a pass from Ben Street and ripped a wrist shot past Milwaukee goalie Marek Mazanec to give the Monsters a 2-1 victory. The goal was his second of the season.
Pickard is 18-14-7 after stopping 30 of 31 shots. He is 4-1-1 against the Admirals this season. Mazanec suffered the overtime loss in relief for Milwaukee, stopping 15 of 16 shots in 36:08 of ice time. He is now 17-16-7. Milwaukee starter Magnus Hellberg did not factor into the decision; he stopped 13 of 14 shots in 28:12 of game action.
The Monsters host Milwaukee tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. Tomorrow's game airs live on ESPN 850 WKNR.
