Albany, N.Y. - The Albany River Rats (23-36-3-2) scored three straight goals to overcome an early deficit and hand the Lowell Lock Monsters (25-31-5-5) a 3-2 defeat at the Pepsi Arena on Saturday evening.

Although the River Rats took the first 10 shots of the game, Paul Healey opened the scoring with his 18th goal of the season at 13:16 of the first period. Scott Kelman and Keith Aucoin assisted. It was the only tally of the frame, as G Tom Lawson stopped all 14 Rats chances in the first.

Albany tied the score in the second. Brad Ference fired a one-timer past Lawson on the power play at 11:06, off a feed from Alexander Mogilny. The Monsters nearly fell behind later in the period while Albany was on another power play, but Ahren Nittel's blast rang off the post. The game headed to the third period knotted up at one. Albany led in shots through 40 minutes, 25-21, with both Lawson and Rats G Frank Doyle playing strong between the pipes.

A strong start to the third stanza lifted Albany into the lead. Pierre-Luc Leblond notched his first of the season 3:00 into the final period to make it 2-1. Still holding Lowell without a shot in the third, Albany made it 3-1. Peter Vrana potted his 11th of the season to go with his second period assist and give him a multiple point night. The Monsters captain registered his second of the night with a shorthanded goal late in the third frame to pull Lowell within a goal. Healey has two goals in each of his last three games against Albany. The Monsters had a brilliant chance to tie it with a two-man power play advantage and an extra attacker with their goaltender pulled, but could not get the equalizer.
