Omaha, NE - The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights erupted for four goals in the second period and cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Houston Aeros on Sunday night at the Civic Auditorium. Dave Moss had two goals and two assists as the Knights earned their first win in six tries against the West Division's top team.

The Aeros opened the scoring just 3:53 into the game. While on the powerplay, Patrick O'Sullivan slid a pass across the crease to Kirby Law who banged home his 35th goal of the year.

The Knights answered back before the period was half over. Moss broke down the right wing and dished a pass back to Tomi Maki. His first shot went wide but bounced off the end boards. Maki tapped in the rebound for his tenth goal of the year, snapping a personal twelve-game drought.

Eric Nystrom gave the Knights the lead early in the second period. He one-timed Moss' feed past goalie Seamus Kotyk at 2:37 for a powerplay goal. Carsen Germyn picked up the other assist, one of three on the night.

The Knights got another powerplay minutes later and scored when Richie Regehr's shot from the right point snuck inside the left post.

It looked as if the Knights were going to get another powerplay later in the period, but Lynn Loyns rendered the call moot when he stepped out from behind the Houston net and beat Kotyk from a sharp angle to make it 4-1.

Moss finished the scoring in the period exactly two minutes later, batting home the rebound of a Craig MacDonald shot for his 20th goal of the year. Moss added his second tally of the game in the third period, benefiting from the forechecking of Ajay Baines and Germyn who worked the puck out of the right corner to set up the one-timer that brought Moss his fourth point of the game.

Brent Krahn was solid in net while seeing only 22 shots in the game. The victory was his 20th of the year. In all, the Knights had four powerplay goals on twelve chances. The win matched their largest winning margin of the season set the night before in a 5-0 win over Cleveland.

The Knights are now 29-25-2-8. Their lead over idle Iowa is now five points in the West Division standings. The Knights completed their five-game home stand with a record of 3-1-0-1. They finish the three-in-three stretch on Monday at San Antonio at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets for all home games are on sale at the Civic Auditorium box office, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on Sunday from noon through game time and at all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets may be purchased by calling 422-1212 or at Ticketmaster.com.
