MONSTERS HELD OFF BY STARS
November 27, 2017 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Monsters, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, were defeated by the Texas Stars on Saturday at The Q by a final score of 3-2. With the loss, the Monsters fell to 7-6-2-2 overall this season and with a .529 points percentage, currently sit alone in fifth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.
Texas grabbed a 1-0 lead with a Roope Hintz power-play score at 2:40 of the first, but the Monsters quickly tied the game at 3:41 when Nick Moutrey tapped home an even-strength equalizer on feeds from Carter Camper and John Ramage. In the middle frame, the Stars surged back in front with a shorthanded Brian Flynn marker at 4:52 that gave the visitors a 2-1 lead through two periods of play.
Samuel Laberge pushed the Stars' edge to 3-1 at 6:24 of the third when the rookie forward stashed an even-strength tally past Cleveland net-minder Joonas Korpisalo's left toe, and despite a power-play goal for Monsters winger Miles Koules at 15:31, thanks to assists from Camper and Dean Kukan, the Stars skated away with a 3-2 win.
Korpisalo fell to 1-1-0 between the pipes for the Monsters this year despite stopping 20 of the 23 pucks he faced, while Texas' Landon Bow improved to 6-3-0 by virtue of a 21-save performance.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a Thursday road clash vs. the Manitoba Moose, with full coverage, live from Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, MB, underway at 8:00 pm on 99X and the Monsters Hockey Network.
