Monsters Charge Past Chicago

ROSEMONT, IL - The AHL's defending Calder Cup Champions, the Cleveland Monsters, proudly powered by Constellation, defeated the Chicago Wolves on Saturday at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL by a final score of 5-2. With the win, the Monsters' seventh in their past eight games, Cleveland improved to 34-28-3-4 overall this season and with a .543 points percentage, remain alone in fifth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.

After the AHL's top goal-scorer, Chicago's Wade Megan, delivered the Wolves a 1-0 lead with an even-strength goal at 8:46 of the opening frame, Monsters rookie Sam Vigneault posted his first professional tally in the initial stanza's final minute, thanks to power-play assists from Alex Broadhurst and Dean Kukan at 19:33.

In the middle frame, the Monsters tallied twice, with an even-strength Justin Scott goal at 8:04, assisted by Ryan Craig and Oleg Yevenko, and an extra-man strike from Craig at 9:54, set up by T.J. Tynan and Sonny Milano, combining to extend Cleveland's edge to 3-1 heading into the final period of regulation.

Zac Dalpe contributed an even-strength goal at 1:31 of the third thanks to five-on-five assists from Milano and Gabriel Carlsson before Tage Thompson pulled Chicago within a pair at 4-2 with an even-strength tally at 4:43. Markus Hannikainen's team-leading 17th of the season sealed the win at even-strength for Cleveland, however, as Vigneault and Milano set him up at 9:01 of the final frame.

Anton Forsberg improved to 24-16-3 in net for Cleveland by virtue of a 28-save performance while Jordan Binnington stopped 30 pucks for the Wolves and fell to 14-7-8 this year.
