Moncton Wildcats Disappointed with Arbitrator's Decision
March 19, 2013 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Moncton Wildcats News Release
Moncton, NB - The Moncton Wildcats have learned that the arbitrator has rejected their request for review of the decision suspending Ross Johnson. The request for review was submitted to the league on March 1. Ross Johnston has now sat out 13 games of the 15 game suspension and is slated to return for Game 3 of the playoffs on March 26th in Victoriaville.
"We knew that under league rules the suspension would be largely served before we receive a decision on the request for review. However, we pursued the matter because we support Ross and believed that it offered an opportunity to more appropriately address an unorthodox hockey situation and to enhance player safety. We are respectfully disappointed in the decision to uphold the suspension." said Jean Brousseau, Moncton Wildcats Governor.
The Moncton Wildcats believe that both the appeal process and the rules with respect to sticks becoming lodged in the boards need to be re-evaluated. The Moncton Wildcats will continue to be proactive in these matters to enhance the safety of all players in the league. The Wildcats will continue to support and trust our players. We are committed to continuous efforts to make the league a safer place to play and to develop elite players aged between 16 to 20 years old.
