Moncton, NB â Moncton Wildcats scored two unanswered goals in the third period and went on to double the PEI Rocket 4 â 2 before 3,684 at the Moncton Coliseum on Wednesday. The win moved Moncton into sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division and second place overall in the QMJHL.Â
Kevin Glode (2nd, 3rd) paced the Moncton attack with a pair of goals, including the winner in the third period. Charles Bergeron (3rd) and Oskars Bartulis (2nd) rounded out the Wildcats' scoring summary. Steve Bernier and Brad Marchand each chipped in with a pair of assists, while Christian Gaudet, Stephane Goulet, Charles Tanguay and Adam Pineault each added one assist. Replying for the Rocket were David Laliberte (9th) and Viatcheslav Trukhno (6th).Â
Moncton improved their record to 11 â 4 â 1 (23 pts), while PEI fell to 10 â 6 â 1 (21 pts). Moncton was 1 for 8 on the powerplay, while PEI went 1 for 6. Moncton outshot PEI 31 â 29, including 12 â 9 in the first and 7 â 6 in the third, while PEI held a 14 â 12 advantage in the second period.Â
Corey Crawford improved his record to 9 â 3 â 1, as he blocked 27 of 29 shots, while Jonathan Boutin's record fell to 7 â 3 â 1, as he allowed four goals on 31 shots. The game's three stars were #1 â Kevin Glode, #2 â Corey Crawford and #3 â Viatcheslav Trukhno.Â
Moncton continues their three-game home stand on Friday when they host the defending League Champions, Gatineau Olympiques before hosting the Rimouski Oceanic on Sunday, in a special 2 pm Sunday Halloween match up.Â
