LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

vs. Providence (2/8): The Manchester Monarchs fell to the Providence Bruins, 3-2, despite outshooting them, 33-21, on Saturday night. Left wing Nick Deslauriers and center Linden Vey both scored one goal for the Monarchs. Forward Andrew Cherniwchan, left wing Matt Fraser, and defenseman Mike Moore each collected a goal for the Bruins. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (11-3-2) took his third loss of the season, stopping 18-of-21 shots. Bruins netminder Niklas Svedberg (17-11-3) earned his 17th win of the season, stopping 31 of the 33 shots he faced in the game. Manchester was 1-for-4 on the power play. Providence went 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

vs. Albany (2/9): Goaltender Martin Jones earned his second shutout of the season with 19 saves as the Manchester Monarchs blanked the Albany Devils, 3-0, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday evening. Left wing Andy Andreoff, right wing Sean Backman, and center Jordan Weal each registered goals for Manchester. Jones (12-3-2) collected his 12th win of the season, stopping all 19 shots he faced in the game. Devils netminder Scott Wedgewood (7-10-2) lost his 10th game of the season, stopping 26-of-29 shots. Manchester was 0-for-6 on the power play. Albany went 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (31-14-2-5) are ranked first in the Atlantic Division with 69 points. The St. John's IceCaps (28-18-1-2) and the Providence Bruins (26-18-1-6) are tied for second place in the division with 59 points each. The Worcester Sharks (23-19-3-1) are ranked fourth in the Atlantic Division with 50 points. The Portland Pirates (17-21-2-7) sit in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 43 points.

The Monarchs are ranked 28th in the American Hockey League on the power play with 27 goals on 206 attempts. Manchester is ranked 18th in the league on the penalty kill stopping their opponent 177-of-217 times.

Manchester has had the most success on Saturdays as they have compiled an overall record of 14-4-0-1 on Saturdays.

Manchester currently leads the Eastern Conference and the American Hockey League with 69 points through 52 games this season.

Former Monarchs and current Los Angeles Kings forward Dustin Brown and goaltender Jonathan Quick have been named to the 2014 U.S. Olympic Men's Hockey Roster, which was revealed January 1. Both Brown and Quick were on the silver-medal winning 2010 U.S. Olympic Hockey team.

Former Monarchs and current Kings defenseman Slava Voynov was named to the 2014 Russian Olympic Men's Hockey Roster on January 7. This will be Voynov's first time representing Russia in the Olympics.

Center Jordan Weal (11-33=44) leads the Monarchs with 33 assists and 44 points.

Weal is tied for third in the AHL with 33 assists.

Weal is ranked 10th in the AHL with 44 points.

Left wing Nick Deslauriers (15-17=32) ranks second on the Monarchs with 32 points.

Deslauriers ranks second on the team with 15 goals and 74 penalty minutes.

Deslauriers also leads the Monarchs and ranks second in the AHL with 185 shots on goal.

Deslauriers set season-high point and assist streaks last week, collecting one goal and six assists in six games dating from January 25 to February 8. Left wing Tanner Pearson (16-13=29) is ranked third on the Monarchs with 29 points.

Pearson leads the Monarchs with 16 goals this season.

Pearson has recorded one point, a goal, in eight games with the Kings this season.

Center Linden Vey (10-18=28) is ranked fourth on the Monarchs with 28 points.

Vey is the Monarchs ninth all-time leader with 85 assists from 2011 - present.

Vey has also collected five assists in 15 games with the Kings this season.

Forward Nick Shore (7-17$) ranks fifth on the Monarchs with 24 points.

Right wing Brian O'Neill (11-12=23) sits in sixth place on the Monarchs with 23 points.

O'Neill is tied with Weal for third on the Monarchs with 11 goals each.

O'Neill and Deslauriers lead the Monarchs with three game-winning goals.

Left wing Andy Andreoff (8-14=22) is ranked seventh on the Monarchs with 22 points.

Andreoff leads the Monarchs with 113 penalty minutes.

Right wing Scott Sabourin (10-8=18) and defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (5-13=18) are tied for eighth place on the Monarchs with 18 points each. Bodnarchuk ranks second on the Monarchs and in the AHL with a plus/minus rating of plus-29.

Right wing Tyler Toffoli (10-7=17) sits in 10th place on the Monarchs with 17 points.

Toffoli, Sabourin, and Vey are tied for fourth place on the Monarchs with 10 goals each.

Toffoli has nine goals and eight assists for 17 points in 37 games with the Kings.

Defenseman Vincent LoVerde (2-13=15) is ranked 11th on the Monarchs with 15 points.

LoVerde leads the Monarchs and the AHL with a plus-32 rating.

Right wing Sean Backman (7-7=14) and defenseman Derek Forbort (1-13=14) are tied for 12th place on the Monarchs with 14 points.

Right wing Zach O'Brien (6-7=13) is ranked 14th on the Monarchs with 13 points.

Defenseman Andrew Campbell (2-8=10) is the all-time games played leader in Monarchs history with 396 games played.

Jones made his National Hockey League debut with the Kings against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, December 3. He backstopped the Kings to a 3-2 shootout victory, including going 9-for-9 in the shootout.

Jones picked up his first NHL shutout by stopping all 16 shots he faced in the Kings 3-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday, December 7.

The rookie netminder then stopped all 31 shots he faced in the Kings 6-0 shutout of the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, December 10.

In 13 games with the Kings, Jones has collected a record of 8-4-0, a .940 save percentage, a 1.71 goals-against-average, and three shutouts. Jones' eight wins tied the NHL record for consecutive winning games to start an NHL career with netminder Bob Froese who won his first eight games with the Philadelphia Flyers during the 1982-83 season.

Jones is the first goaltender in NHL history to allow an average of less than one goal per game while winning the first eight appearances of his career.

Jones is the third goaltender in NHL history to record three shutouts in his first six starts. Goaltender Flat Walsh accomplished the feat with the New York Americans during the 1928-29 season and netminder Frank Brimsek did it with the Boston Bruins during the 1938-39 season.

Jones has an overall record of 12-3-2 with a 2.02 goals-against-average, a .932 save percentage, and two shutouts in 17 games with the Monarchs this season.

Jones ranks third among AHL goaltenders with a 2.02 goals-against average and second with a .932 save percentage this season.

Jones ranks in the top 10 all-time in the following Monarchs goaltending categories:

Games played - 153 - first place

Wins - 80 - first place

Losses - 57 - first place

Ties/Shootout Losses - 9 - tied for second place

Goals-against-average - 2.42 - eighth place

Save percentage - .922 - tied for sixth place

Shutouts - 12 - third place

Saves - 4,140 - first place

Goaltender Jean-Francois Berube registered a 14-8-2 record in 24 consecutive starts during Jones' first stint with the Kings.

Berube set a franchise record for consecutive appearances by a goaltender with 20 games on December 29. His current record-setting streak sits at 24 consecutive games. He surpassed the feat of 19 games set by netminders Travis Scott from February 19 - March 22, 2003, and Jason LaBarbera from November 19 - December 29, 2006.

Berube has collected a 19-13-2 record with a 2.43 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage in 34 games with the Monarchs this season.

Berube is ranked second in the AHL with 2001:04 minutes played and fifth with 859 saves this season.

Berube recorded his first AHL shutout by stopping all 28 shots he faced in the Monarchs 6-0 win over the IceCaps on Saturday, January 18. He was recalled by the Kings for the first time on February 7.

Monarchs Promotions Twice As Nice On Ice - The Monarchs are featuring a special vow renewal ceremony on the ice, presented by WZID when the team hosts the Worcester Sharks at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday, February 14.
