LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
@ Springfield (4/27): The Manchester Monarchs tied the game late in the third period but fell to the Springfield Falcons, 2-1 in overtime, in Game 1 of the best-of-five 2013 Calder Cup Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at MassMutual Center on Saturday night. Right wing Brian O'Neill scored the lone goal for the Monarchs. Defenseman Blake Parlett and right wing Cody Bass scored the goals for the Falcons. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (0-1) took his first loss of the playoffs making 28 saves on 29 shots in regulation and five-of-six shots in overtime. Falcons netminder Curtis McElhinney (1-0) earned his first victory of the post-season stopping 27-of-28 shots faced in regulation and denying both shots faced in overtime. Manchester went 0-for-4 on the power play. Springfield went 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
@ Springfield (4/28): Right wing Cody Bass netted the game-winner in overtime for the second consecutive night as the Manchester Monarchs fell to the Springfield Falcons, 3-2, in Game 2 of the best-of-five 2013 Calder Cup Eastern Conference Quarterfinals at MassMutual Center on Sunday afternoon. Defenseman Nick Deslauriers and right wing Anthony Stewart tallied goals for the Monarchs. Defenseman David Savard and right wing Trent Vogelhuber also tallied goals for the Falcons. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (0-2) took his second loss of the playoffs making 24 saves on 26 shots in regulation and 11-of-12 shots in overtime. Falcons netminder Curtis McElhinney (2-0) earned his second victory of the post-season stopping 28-of-30 shots faced in regulation and making saves on all 13 shots faced in overtime. Manchester went 1-for-3 on the power play. Springfield went 1-for-8 with the man advantage.

The Manchester Monarchs (0-2) dropped both Game 1 and 2 in overtime to begin their best-of-five series against the Springfield Falcons (2-0) in the 2013 Calder Cup Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

Elsewhere in the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, the Hershey Bears (2-0), the Syracuse Crunch (2-0) and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins all lead their first round series' 2-0.
The Monarchs have played in two consecutive overtime playoff games. The franchise record is three consecutive games which occurred during the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs Atlantic Division Semifinals against the eventual Calder Cup Champion Binghamton Senators in Games 5, 6 and 7 (all three were overtime losses for the Monarchs).
The Monarchs are 8-17 in 25 all-time post-season overtime games.
The last time the Monarchs hosted a playoff game was a 4-3 overtime loss in Game 4 of the 2012 Calder Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the eventual Calder Cup Champion Norfolk Admirals on April 27, 2012.
The Monarchs power play is 1-for-7 in their first two playoff games while their penalty kill is 11-for-12.
Springfield has scored first in each of the first two games of the series.
The Monarchs took their first lead of the series with 4:08 remaining in the second period of Game 2.
The Monarchs were 2-3-0-1 against the Falcons in the regular season this season.
Falcons defenseman Blake Parlett (1-0=1) scored the first penalty shot in the Calder Cup Playoffs against the Monarchs in Game 1.
Defenseman Nick Deslauriers (1-1=2) is tied with center Andy Andreoff (0-2=2) for the team lead in points with two each.
Deslauriers and Andreoff off are the only Monarchs to record at least one point in each of the first two games of the playoffs this season.
Deslauriers' assist on right wing Brian O'Neill's (1-0=1) goal in Game 1 was his first professional playoff point.
Deslauriers' power play goal in Game 2 was his first professional post-season goal.
Andreoff leads the team with two assists.
Andreoff has four points (2-2=4) in six career post-season game with the Monarchs over the last two seasons.
O'Neill tallied the first goal of the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs for the Monarchs. The goal also marked his first professional playoff goal.
Right wing Anthony Stewart (1-0=1) tallied a goal in the Monarchs 3-2 overtime loss in Game 2 against the Falcons. Stewart has 12 career Calder Cup Playoff goals and has appeared in 21 AHL post-season games Left wing David Meckler (0-0=0) and defenseman Andrew Campbell (0-0=0) are ranked first and second on the Monarchs active all-time Calder Cup Playoff games played list with 31 and 29, respectively.
Defenseman Derek Forbort (0-0=0), defenseman Vincent LoVerde (0-0=0), left wing Tanner Pearson (0-0=0), center Jordan Weal (0- 0=0) and left wing Colton Yellow Horn (0-0=0) all made their professional post-season debuts in Game 1 against the Falcons on Saturday, April 27. Right wing Scott Sabourin (0-0=0) made his professional post-season debut on Sunday, April 28 in Game 2 against the Falcons.
Goaltender Martin Jones (0-2) has started both games for the Monarchs in the post-season totaling 149:04.
Jones has a 2.01 goals-against-average and a 0.932 save percentage in the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs.
Jones tallied an assist in Game 2 on Deslauriers' goal. The assist marked the first time a Monarchs goaltender registered a point since Jason LaBerbera recorded an assist in the 2007 Calder Cup Playoffs.
