LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
@ Providence (12/7): Manchester Monarchs defenseman Bryan Rodney scored two goals in his season debut as they fell to the Providence Bruins, 3-2, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night. Providence received goals from defenseman Torey Krug and left wing Kyle MacKinnon (two). Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (7-10-1) took his 10th loss of the season stopping 27-of-30 shots. Bruins netminder Niklas Svedberg (9-4-1) earned his ninth win of the season making 28 saves on 30 shots. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Providence was also 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
vs. Connecticut (12/8): The Manchester Monarchs scored a franchise high nine goals and defeated the Connecticut Whale at the Verizon Wireless Arena, 9-2, on Saturday night. Registering goals for the Monarchs were defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk, left wing Richard Clune, center Andrei Loktionov, right wing Brandon Kozun (two), left wing Jordan Nolan, center Linden Vey (two) and defenseman Slava Voynov. Right wing Christian Thomas and center Kelsey Tessier score for the Whale. Monarchs goaltender Peter Mannino (4-1-0) earned his fourth victory of the season stopping 23-of-25 shots. Whale netminder Cameron Talbot (8-7-0) took his seventh loss of the season and made saves on 17 out of 22 shots. Whale goaltender Jason Missiaen (2-3-0) stopped 12-of-16 shots in relief of Talbot. Manchester was 0-for-1 on the power play. Connecticut went 0-for-1 with the man advantage.
vs. Worcester (12/9): The Manchester Monarchs dropped two third period goals and fell to the Worcester Sharks, 3-2, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday afternoon. Defenseman Thomas Hickey and left wing Dwight King scored goals for the Monarchs. Left wing John McCarthy, center Tim Kennedy and right wing Brodie Reid scored for the Sharks. Monarchs goaltender Peter Mannino (4-2-0) took his second loss of the season stopping 40-of-43 shots. Sharks netminder Harri Sateri (4-4-1) earned his fourth victory of the season making 21 saves on 23 shots. Manchester went 1-for-4 on the power play. Worcester was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Worcester Sharks (12-8-1-2) sit in first place in the Atlantic Division with 27 points. The Providence Bruins (12-8-0-2) are in second place in division with 26 points. The Manchester Monarchs (11-10-2-1) sit in third place in the division with 25 points. The Portland Pirates (11-10-1-1) sit in fourth place in the division with 24 points. The St. John's IceCaps (11-12-0-1) are in fifth place in the division with 23 points.
The Monarchs are 5-3-0-1 on the road and are 6-7-2-0 at home this season.
Manchester is 7-1-0-0 overall and 4-0-0-0 at home when they play on a Saturday this season.
Manchester set a franchise single game record with nine goals in a 9-2 victory against the Connecticut Whale on Saturday, December 8.
The Monarchs had 14 skaters record at least one point in Saturday's 9-2 record breaking victory, including nine multiple point skaters.
The Monarchs scored a five-on-three power play goal in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Sharks. The power play goal ended a six game power play goal drought that started after the Monarchs had tied a season-high record with three power play goal in a single against the Springfield Falcons on Saturday, November 24. Earlier this season, Manchester scored three power play goals against the IceCaps on Wednesday, November 7.
Right wing Brandon Kozun (7-13=20) leads the team in assists with 13 and points with 20.
Kozun ranks second on the team with seven goals.
Kozun tallied two goals and an assist in the Monarchs 9-2 victory over the Whale on Saturday night.
Kozun had a three-game assist and point streak (0-3=3) snapped in a 5-4 loss to the Falcons on Friday, November 30.
Kozun leads the team with three game-winning goals this season.
Kozun tallied the game-winning goals against the Sharks on Saturday, October 27, against the Binghamton Senators on Sunday, October 28 and the IceCaps on Wednesday, November 7.
Right wing Tyler Toffoli (10-7=17) is tied with center Linden Vey (6-11=17) for second place on the team with 17 points each.
Toffoli leads the team, ranks third among AHL rookies and ranks 15th in the league with 10 goals this season.
Toffoli had a five-game point streak (6-2=8) snapped in a 4-0 loss to the Pirates on Sunday, December 2.
Vey is second on the team with 11 assists and is third on the team with six goals.
Vey tallied two goals in his first multi-goal game of the season in a 9-2 victory on Saturday night.
Vey has 11 points (3-8=11) in his last 10 games.
Vey is tied for 17th in the AHL with seven power play assists.
Center Andrei Loktionov (5-10=15) is in fourth place on the Monarchs with 15 points.
Lokitonov is on a three-game assist and point streak (1-5=6).
Loktionov leads the team and is tied for second in the AHL with two shorthanded goals this season.
Defenseman Slava Voynov (5-8=13) ranks fifth on the Monarchs with 13 points.
Voynov and Loktionov are tied for fourth on the team with five goals each.
Voynov's five goals lead team defensemen.
Voynov leads the team with 74 shots on goal this season.
Left wing Tanner Pearson (4-8=12) and defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (3-9=12) are tied for sixth place on the Monarchs with 12 points each.
Pearson had a four-game point streak (1-3=4) snapped in a 4-0 loss to the Pirates on Sunday, December 2.
Bodnarchuk leads the team in plus/minus with a plus-11 rating. Bodnarchuk leads team defensemen with nine assists this season.
In five games against his former team, Bodnarchuk has registered three assists, six shots and a plus-1 rating versus Providence.
Left wing Dwight King (3-8=11) ranks eighth on the Monarchs with 11 points.
King is tied for league lead with two shorthanded assists this season.
Defenseman Jake Muzzin (1-8=9) is in ninth place on the Monarchs with nine points.
Muzzin tallied his first goal of the season in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Pirates on Sunday, November 25.
Right wing Stefan Legein (1-7=8), defenseman Thomas Hickey (1-7=8) and defenseman Nick Deslauriers (2-6=8) are tied for 10th place on the Monarchs with eight points each.
Legein had a three-game assist and point streak (0-3=3) snapped in a 3-2 loss to the Sharks on Sunday, December 9.
Hickey scored his first goal of the season in a 3-2 loss to the Sharks on Sunday, December 9.
Deslauriers scored a goal in consecutive games for the first time in his professional career with tallies on Friday, November 23 against the Sharks and Saturday, November 24 against the Falcons.
Left wing Marc-Andre Cliche (3-4=7) is in 13th place on the Monarchs with seven points.
Cliche ranks second on the Monarchs all-time games played list with 307.
Cliche has scored 61 goals in his career with the Monarchs ranking ninth on the franchise's all-time list.
Cliche ranks ninth on the Monarchs all-time points list with 138 and ranks 10th on the franchise's all-time assist list with 77.
Defenseman David Kolomatis (3-3=6) and left wing Richard Clune (2-4=6) are tied for 14th place on the Monarchs with six points each.
All three of Kolomatis' goals this season have come when the team was on a power play. Kolomatis is tied with Toffoli and Pearson for the team lead with three power play goals each.
Clune leads the team with 66 penalty minutes.
Clune's 758 penalty minutes rank second on the Monarchs all-time career penalty minutes list.
Center Andy Andreoff (3-2=5) is tied with left wing Jordan Nolan (2-3=5) for 16th place on the Monarchs with five points each.
Defenseman Bryan Rodney (2-2=4) is in 17th place on the Monarchs with four points.
Rodney made his Monarchs on Friday, December 7 and scored two goals in the game.
Rodney recorded his second multiple point game with two assists in a 3-2 loss to the Sharks on Sunday, December 9.
Right wing Brian O'Neill (1-2=3) and center Jordan Weal (1-2=3) are tied for 18th place on the Monarchs with three points each.
O'Neill has three points (1-2=3) in his last five games.
Weal scored his first professional goal in a 5-4 loss against the Falcons on Friday, November 30.
Center Robbie Czarnik (2-0=2) ranks 21st on the Monarchs with two points.
Czarnik recorded his second goal of the season against the Falcons in a 5-4 loss on Friday, November 30.
Defenseman Andrew Campbell (0-1=1) is ranked 23rd on the Monarchs with one point.
Campbell returned from an upper body injury on Friday, December 8 in Providence. Campbell had been out of the line-up since Sunday October 28 missing 16 games.
Campbell's 306 games rank third all-time on the Monarchs most games played list.
Right wing Justin Johnson (0-0=0) made his season debut against the Bruins on Friday, November 16. Left wing David Meckler (0-0=0) made his season debut against the Sharks on Sunday, November 4.
Meckler holds the franchise record for games played with 352 in a Monarchs uniform. Meckler's 350th game came against the Pirates on Sunday, November 25.
Goaltender Martin Jones (7-10-1) surrendered a goal at 16:44 of the first period on Friday, November 9 marking his first goal against in 114:03 minutes spanning three games from November 4-9.
Jones has a 2.47 goals-against-average, a 0.918 save percentage and has stopped 490-of-534 shots attempts in 18 games this season.
Jones' 0.918 save percentage and 2.47 goals-against-average ranks 12th and is tied for 15th place in the league, respectively.
Goaltender Peter Mannino (4-2-0) has a 2.08 goal-against-average and a 0.926 save percentage in eight games this season.
