LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

At Springfield (11/24): Left wing Richard Clune scored his first shorthanded goal of the season to lift the Manchester Monarchs over the Springfield Falcons 3-2 at the MassMutual Center on Wednesday night. Center Justin Azevedo and defenseman Thomas Hickey also lit the lamp for the Monarchs. The Falcons picked up goals from center Nick Tarnasky and defenseman Brent Regner. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (4-1-0) earned his fourth win of the season stopping 24-of-26 shots. Falcons netminder David LeNeveu (6-5-1) took his fifth loss of the season with 23 saves on 26 shots. Manchester was 0-for-6 on the power play. Springfield was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

Vs. Albany (11/26): Center Brayden Schenn recorded two tallies, his first two professional goals, as the Manchester Monarchs topped the Albany Devils 7-2 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Center Marc-Andre Cliche, center Corey Elkins, left wing David Meckler, defenseman Patrick Mullen and defenseman Colten Teubert also scored for the Monarchs in addition to Schenn's two tallies. The Devils scored goals from center David McIntyre and center Adam Henrique. Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (8-6-1) earned his eighth win of the season, stopping 34-of-36 shots. Devils netminder Dave Caruso (0-1-0) took his first losing decision of the season, halting 28-of-35 shots on net. Manchester was 2-for-8 on the power play. Albany was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

Vs. Portland (11/27): Center Oscar Moller recorded two goals as the Manchester Monarchs defeated the Portland Pirates by a 6-1 score at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. The Monarchs Care Foundation and the United States Marines also collected new and unused toys for Toys For Tots upon entry at Saturday's game. Center Justin Azevedo, center Corey Elkins, left wing Ray Kaunisto and center Brayden Schenn joined Moller on the scoreboard for the Monarchs. Defenseman Nick Crawford scored the lone goal for the Pirates. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (5-1-0) earned his fifth victory of the season, stopping 34-of-35 shots. Pirates netminder David Leggio (8-2-0) drew his second losing decision of the season, playing the entire first period and halting 12-of-16 shots on net. Goaltender Jhonas Enroth (5-4-0) relieved Leggio at the start of the second period, stopping 24-of-26 shots on goal. Manchester did not have a power play opportunity in the game. Portland was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

At Worcester (11/28): The Manchester Monarchs continued their scoring prowess and won their fourth game in a row with a 5-2 victory over the Worcester Sharks at the DCU Center on Sunday evening. Left wing Bud Holloway, left wing Ray Kaunisto, center Andrei Loktionov, left wing David Meckler and center Oscar Moller found the back of the net for the Monarchs. Defenseman Matt Irwin and right wing Jonathan Cheechoo scored for the Sharks. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (9-6-1) earned his ninth win of the season stopping 31-of-33 shots on net. Sharks netminder Alex Stalock (9-8-1) took his eighth loss of the season with 19 saves on 22 shots before he was replaced by goaltender Riley Gill (0-0-0) in the third period who stopped 8-of-10 shots. Manchester went 2-for-6 on the power play. Worcester was 2-for-4 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (15-7-1-1, 32 points) moved into first place in the Atlantic Division with four wins in four games last week, moving them three points ahead of the second place Portland Pirates (14-6-1-0, 29 points) who have 29 points. The Worcester Sharks (10-7-1-3), in third place, trail the Monarchs by eight points with 24 points.

The Monarchs are currently on a four-game winning streak, tied for their longest win streak of the season. They also are on a season-high three-game road winning streak dating back to November 20.

Manchester's power play is ranked 12th in the AHL as they have scored 22 goals on 119 opportunities for a 18.5% conversion rate. On the penalty kill, the Monarchs sit in 15th place in the league as they have given up 19 goals when they have been down a man. They have been shorthanded 112 times this season and have an 83.0% penalty kill rating.

Center Andrei Loktionov (3-14=17) scored eight points (1-7=8) in four games last week to move into sole possession of first place on the Monarchs squad with 17 points. The second year center is averaging over a point per game as he has 17 points in just 14 games since being assigned to Manchester from Los Angeles on November 2.

Loktionov's seven assists last week also gives him the team lead in assists this season with a total of 14 helpers. He is currently on a three-game assist (seven) and point (eight) streak.

Center Corey Elkins (6-10=16) picked up six points (2-4=6) over the weekend to move into second place on the Monarchs with 16 points.

Elkins also recorded a plus-5 rating in his last three games to take over the team lead in the plus/minus category with a plus-10 this season.

Loktionov is a close second to Elkins in the plus/minus rating with a plus-9 overall after collecting a plus-6 over the weekend.

Defenseman Alec Martinez (5-11=16) is tied with Elkins for second place on the team with 16 points. His 16 points are tied for third amongst all AHL blueliners. Martinez, recalled by Los Angeles on November 23, scored his first NHL goal the next evening as he scored against netminder Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens in a 4-1 loss.

Martinez's 11 assists rank second on the Monarchs.

Martinez's 58 shots are also ranked fourth in the AHL among defensemen in that category.

Center Oscar Moller (5-10=15) is tied with left wing Bud Holloway (5-10=15) for fourth place in Manchester with 15 points each.

Moller is on a two-game goal scoring streak with three tallies in his last two games, two of which were the game-winning goals.

In three games last week, Moller registered six points (3-3=6) and is currently on a three-game scoring streak.

Holloway is also on a three-game scoring streak with a goal and two assists for three points.

Right wing Brandon Kozun (6-8=14) sits in sixth place on the Monarchs with 14 points.

Kozun is tied for 10th place in the AHL among rookies with 14 points.

Center Justin Azevedo (7-6=13), left wing David Meckler (9-4=13) and defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov (4-9=13) are tied for seventh place on the Monarchs with 14 points each.

Azevedo is ranked second in the AHL in game-winning goals with three, his most recent winning tally coming against the Hartford Wolf Pack on November 17.

Meckler leads the Monarchs with nine goals in 24 games this season.

Left wing Dwight King (6-5=11), recalled by Los Angeles on November 16, is ranked 10th on the Monarchs squad with 11 points.

Center Marc-Andre Cliche (3-4=7) has recorded all seven of his points over his last seven games, including two assists in Wednesday night's 3-2 victory over the Springfield Falcons, the game-winning goal in Friday night's 7-2 victory over the Albany Devils and two assists in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Portland Pirates.

Left wing Richard Clune's 73 penalty minutes are tied for fifth place in the league in the same category. Right wing Justin Johnson's 10 penalty minutes in Friday night's contest gave him 72 penalty minutes on the year, moving him right behind Clune for second on the team and seventh in the AHL.

Center Brayden Schenn (3-4=7) made his AHL debut with the Monarchs on November 19 against Worcester and recorded seven points in seven games while on a two week conditioning assignement with the team. Schenn was assigned by the Kings to the Monarchs on Thursday, November 18 and will return to Los Angeles this week.

Defenseman Jake Muzzin (1-6=7) returned to the Monarchs when Martinez was recalled to the Kings on November 23. In six games in Manchester this season, Muzzin has collected a goal and six assist for seven points and a plus-8 rating.

Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff has a record of 9-6-1 with a 2.78 goals-against-average and a .900 save percentage in 16 games this season.

Netminder Martin Jones recorded his first professional shutout of the season stopping 27 shots in a 1-0 win against Bridgeport on November 20.

Jones has played in eight games with the Monarchs and has collected a record of 5-1-0 with a 1.39 goals-against-average and a .954 save percentage.

Jones' shutout streak, dating back to November 14, ended with a total of 127 minutes and 20 second when the Falcons scored at 3:08 of the opening period of Wednesday's game.

Jones is also on a three-game winning streak dating back to his shutout on November 20.

MONARCHS PROMOTIONS

New Hampshire Legends of Hockey Night - The Monarchs will celebrate and honor New Hampshire's rich hockey history by paying tribute to the orginal Manchester Monarchs of the 1970s by wearing specialty throwback jerseys during the Monarchs game on Saturday, December 4 in a 7:00 p.m. contest against the Springfield Falcons at the Verizon Wireless Arena for New Hampshire Legends of Hockey Night.
