Manchester Monarchs News Release
WEEK IN REVIEW The Monarchs opened the 2017-18 season with two games last week, and came out with a (1-1-0-0) record.
Saturday night, the Monarchs visited the Worcester Railers and fell, 4-3. Former Monarchs, Wade Murphy and Ashton Rome, put the Railers up, 2-0, before he Monarchs scored three-consecutive goals to take the lead mid-way through the second period. Manchester received the first two goals of Michael Doherty's professional career as well as a tally from new addition, Tony Cameranesi, but gave up late second and third period goals to fall in Game 1 of the season.
Sunday, the Monarchs found themselves in Brampton, Ontario, and despite an early morning flight, came out swinging against the Beast. Sam Kurker got things started when he scored his 1st career goal, and David Kolomatis made it a 2-0 Monarchs lead when he scored his 1st of the season. Brampton inched closer, but Joel Lowry gave the Monarchs their two-goal lead back late in the second period. Brampton would go on to score again, but an empty-netter by Kevin Morris sealed the 4-2 victory for starting goaltender, Charles Williams.
LEADING THE WAY The Monarchs are led in scoring by rookie sensation, Michael Doherty, who leads the way with three points (2g, 1a), and is tied for second among all rookies in scoring. Fellow rookie, Sam Kurker (1g, 1a) is tied with Kevin Morris (1g, 1a) and Matt Leitner (2a) for second on the scoring chart.
EARLY START
The Monarchs will get back to Manchester earlier than normal Tuesday night, due to an 11 a.m. puck drop in Brampton, as the Beast will celebrate Education Day at the Powerade Centre. Manchester will look to continue the offensive beat-down Brampton has faced early in the season, as the Beast have already allowed nine goals in just two games.
YOU, AGAIN...
The Monarchs and Adirondack Thunder will re-new acquaintances Friday night, as the two teams have faced each other 41 times in the last two years including the playoffs. Overall, the Monarchs hold a 19-20-1-1 against the Thunder. Things will look a little different behind the Thunder bench this season, as Brad Tapper has taken over for Cail MacLean, who is now an assistant coach for the Stockton Heat (AHL).
