
Monarchs Sign Mannino

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, have signed goaltender Peter Mannino to a one-year American Hockey League contract and have released defenseman Vincent LoVerde from the his professional tryout agreement, announced Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough on Tuesday.
Mannino, 28, began the season with the Monarchs on a professional tryout agreement. In five games with Manchester this season, Mannino has 3-1-0 record to go along with a 1.87 goals-against-average and a .926 save percentage. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound native of Farmington Hills, Michigan is a veteran of 144 AHL games and six National Hockey League games. Since turning pro in 2008 with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Mannino has compiled a 74-46-8 record in the AHL to go along with a 2.84 goals-against-average and a .904 save percentage. In his six NHL appearances, Mannino has totaled a 1-1-0 record and has posted a 3.98 goals-against-average and a .882 save percentage with the New York Islanders, Atlanta Thrashers and Winnipeg Jets . Last season, Mannino suited up for the St. John's IceCaps (AHL), the Portland Pirates (AHL), Chicago Express (ECHL) and the Jets. In 25 AHL games for the IceCaps and Pirates last season, Mannino tallied a record of 12-11-1 while posting a 3.17 goals-against-average and a .901 save percentage. The netminder appeared in one game for the Jets during the 2011-12 season making saves on all four shots he faced in 19:51 minutes. Prior to becoming a pro, Mannino played four seasons (2004-08) in the NCAA's Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the University of Denver Pioneers collecting an overall record of 61-32-5 and setting the Pioneers' all-time shutout mark at 15. Mannino also ranks second all-time in saves percentage (.917), and third overall in wins (63) and goals-against-average (2.35) for the Pioneers.
LoVerde, 23, tallied an assist for one point (0-11) and two penalty minutes in 11 games since joining the Monarchs on November 9, 2012. The defenseman tallied his first AHL assist and point against the Springfield Falcons on Friday, November 30. LoVerde has registered four goals and an assist for five points and 11 penalty minutes in 12 games with the ECHL's Ontario Reign . The Chicago, Illinois native appeared in 64 games for the Reign last season in his first professional season, registering five goals and 19 assists for 24 points and 54 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound defenseman recorded 36 points (6-3036) in four seasons (2007-11) with NCAA's Miami University (Ohio) Red Hawks . In 159 collegiate games over four seasons, LoVerde had a plus/minus rating of plus-67.
