Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, New Hampshire â The Manchester Monarchs have signed goaltender Rick Laurendeau to an amateur tryout agreement under emergency conditions, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.
Laurendeau, a native of Manchester, New Hampshire, will serve as the Monarchs backup goaltender tonight when the squad travels to Worcester to take on the IceCats (7:05 p.m.). Laurendeau, a 5-foot-9, 175-pounder who played college hockey at Plymouth State College, will take the place of goaltender Travis Scott. Scott will not make the trip to Worcester because he's battling a case of strep throat. Laurendeau, the 47th player to suit up for the Monarchs this season, will wear jersey #45.
With three regular season games remaining, the Monarchs (39-22-10-6, 94 points) need just one more win or tie or one more Bridgeport Sound Tigers loss or tie to lock up fourth place in the Eastern Conference and home ice advantage in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. If the Monarchs do finish fourth, they will begin a best-of-five first round playoff series on Saturday, April 12 at the Verizon Wireless Arena starting at 7:35 p.m. In the same playoff scenario, the Monarchs will also host the fifth seed on Sunday, April 13th at 4:05 p.m., before playing at the fifth seed's home site on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19th if necessary. If a fifth game is necessary, it will be played at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Tuesday, April 22nd at 7:05 p.m. Which team the Monarchs could face in the first round remains unclear, as Bridgeport, Binghamton, Worcester and Hartford all could still finish as high as fifth in the conference.
Manchester Monarchs playoff tickets for the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs go on sale to the general public on Monday, April 7 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets to all Monarchs playoff games can be purchased at the Verizon Wireless Arena Box Office and at all Ticketmaster locations including Filene's at the Mall of New Hampshire, by calling (603) 868-7300, or by visiting Ticketmaster on-line at ticketmaster.com.
