The Playoff Picture: With three regular season games remaining, the Monarchs need just one more win or tie or one more Bridgeport Sound Tigers loss to lock up fourth place in the Eastern Conference and home ice advantage in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. If the Monarchs do finish fourth, they will begin a best-of-five first round playoff series on Saturday, April 12 at the Verizon Wireless Arena starting at 7:35 p.m. In the same playoff scenario, the Monarchs will also host the fifth seed on Sunday, April 13th at 4:05 p.m., before playing at the fifth seed's home site on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19th if necessary. If a fifth game is necessary, it will be played at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Tuesday, April 22nd at 7:05 p.m. Who the Monarchs could face in the first round still remains unclear, as Bridgeport, Binghamton Worcester and Hartford could all finish fifth in the conference.

Last Game, Wednesday, April 2 at the Verizon Wireless Arena: Monarchs 4, Portland 1: The Monarchs tied a franchise record for home wins in a season with their 23rd on Wednesday against the Portland Pirates. Rookie Jared Aulin, who had missed 19 consecutive games with an injury, returned in a big way on Wednesday by scoring two second period goals. Dan Welch and Eric Healey added third period short-handed tallies, and goalie Travis Scott earned his franchise-record 22nd win by making 36 saves.

Monarchs Alumni In The Show: Derek Armstrong had one goal and one assist and goaltender Cristobal Huet recorded 30 saves as the Los Angeles Kings downed the Colorado Avalanche, 5-3, on Wednesday night at STAPLES Center. Defenseman Joe Corvo also added an assist in the game. The Kings, who last week were eliminated from post-season play, close the regular season with a pair of road games starting tonight in Calgary against the Flames. The Kings also are scheduled to play in Vancouver against the Canucks on Sunday.
