
Monarchs Sign Christiansen And Van Oene

MANCHESTER, NH â The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have signed forwards Doug Christiansen and Darren Van Oene to a professional tryout agreements, Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced on Sunday. Christiansen, 26, a third year pro out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has appeared in 55 games with the Danbury Trashers of the United Hockey League this season. The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder has 33 points (15-18=33) and 101 penalty minutes in the 55 contests. Christiansen, who played four seasons with Union College (recorded 28 points (16-12=28) and 134 penalty minutes in 102 career games) before turning pro, will wear jersey No. 6.
Van Oene, 27, comes to the Monarchs after appearing in 44 games with the UHL's Elmira Jackals. The 6-foot-4, 216-pounder has 24 points (9-15=24) and 38 penalty minutes in the 44 contests. Van Oene, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, and a second-round (33rd overall) selection of the Buffalo Sabres in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, has also appeared in four games with the Providence Bruins this season, recording seven penalty minutes. The veteran of over 400 AHL games will wear jersey No. 47.
The Monarchs return to action when they travel to Lowell to meet the Lock Monsters at the Tsongas Arena on Sunday night at 4:05 p.m. The game against the Lock Monsters will be the first of four straight on the road for the Monarchs, who return to the Verizon Wireless Arena to host the Worcester IceCats on Tuesday, March 1 at 7:05 p.m.
Mullet Night â The Final Cut: The Manchester Monarchs will pay homage to "hockey hair" one last time when they host the Worcester IceCats at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Tuesday, March 1. On hand for this sad but historic event will be former Mullet Hall of Fame winners Barry Melrose, a former coach of the Kings and current ESPN personality, and The Hanson Brothers, immortalized as members of the Charlestown Chiefs in the classic hockey movie, "Slap Shot."
