Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ON - Antti Miettinen had two goals in front of a season-high 11,296 fans, leading the Hamilton Bulldogs over the St. John's Maple Leafs 4-2 at Copps Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs record through 55 games now stands at 22-22-6-5.

Hamilton opened the scoring at 5:26 of the first period when Antti Miettinen scored on the power play. James Sanford put a nice saucer pass across the crease and Miettinen chipped the puck past Leafs goaltender Mikael Tellqvist. Trevor Daley also recorded an assist on the goal.

The Maple Leafs evened the score at 8:13 of the first period when Harold Druken scored his 18th goal of the season. Exactly one second after the Bulldogs killed-off a penalty, Druken one-timed a David Ling pass into the top corner of the net.

The Bulldogs regained the lead with their second power-play goal of the game at 11:42 of the first period. Captain Jason Ward scored on a rebound after Corey Locke's initial shot was stopped by Tellqvist to make the score 2-1 in favour of Hamilton.

Hamilton would out-score St. John's 2-1 in the second period, increasing their lead after two periods to 4-2. Forward Andrei Kostitsyn gave the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead at the 3:18 mark with his 11th goal of the season from Andrew Archer. The Leafs pulled within one when Matt Stajan posted his 15th goal of the season from Matt Hubbauer at 11:57. Miettinen restored the Bulldogs two-goal lead with his second goal of the night at 16:30. Tomas Plekanec faked a shot, then made a nifty pass to Miettinen who made no mistake and tallied his third goal of the season.

There was no scoring in the third period. The Bulldogs were 2-4 on the power play while the Leafs were 0-4. Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced en route to his 15th win of the season. St. John's netminder Mikael Tellqvist made 24 saves on 28 shots and suffered the loss.

The Bulldogs next game is Wednesday, February 23rd against the St. John's Maple Leafs at Copps Coliseum. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and tickets are available for purchase online at www.hamiltonbulldogs.com, at the Copps Coliseum Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling Ticketmaster at (905) 527-7666.
