LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
At Portland (10/11): Right wing Mark Mancari collected five points on six goals as the Manchester Monarchs fell to the Portland Pirates, 6-3, in front of 5,136 fans at the Cumberland County Civic Center in both teams' season opener on Saturday night. Monarchs defenseman Josh Kidd scored Manchester's first goal of the 2008-09 season. Centers Gabe Gauthier and Bud Holloway added to Kidd's gesture with their first tallies of the season. Center Tyler Bouck added two goals to Mancari's hat trick and left wing Tim Kennedy scored his first goal of the season to give the Pirates a total of six goals on the night. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Quick took the loss stopping 27-of-33 shots and Portland's netminder Adam Dennis earned the win with 28 saves. Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Portland was 2-for-7 with the man advantage.

10/11/08: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) released defenseman Andrew Campbell from his amateur tryout agreement.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Monarchs are 2-for-6 in season openers. This is the third time in Manchester's history that the team has opened their season on the road, each time losing in the opener. The Monarchs fell to Lowell 6-3 in 2001, dropped the opener to Hartford 4-3 in 2006 and then lost last Saturday to Portland 6-3.
Manchester is 4-3 in Home Openers at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Center Marty Murray was named the seventh Captain in team history on Saturday, October 11. Murray was preceded by Dane Jackson, Richard Seeley, Chris Schmidt, Brendan Buckley, Jon Klemm and Gabe Gauthier. Gauthier and defenseman Drew Bagnall will serve as alternate captains.
Center Trevor Lewis sits atop the Monarchs leader board with two assists in their season opener.
Manchester is currently tied for sixth place in the Atlantic Division after one game with a record of 0-1-0-0.
Portland's right wing Mark Mancari is the 13th player to score a hat trick against the Monarchs in franchise history. Mancari tallied three goals and two assists in Saturday's 6-3 Pirates win over Manchester.
MONARCHS PROMOTIONS
Magnetic Schedule Night - The first 5,000 fans attending the Monarchs Home Opener against the Lowell Devils on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at the Verizon Wireless Arena will receive a Monarchs 2008-09 magnetic schedule, courtesy of Dunkin' Donuts. Fans will also have the opportunity to win a full-size refrigerator or a mini-refrigerator to hold their new magnetic schedule.
IN THE COMMUNITY
Monarchs Care Golf Invitational - The Monarchs Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Manchester Monarchs, will hold their annual Monarchs Care Golf Invitational on Monday, October 13 at Plausawa Valley Country Club in Pembroke, New Hampshire. The Monarchs Care Golf Invitational annually brings together the Monarchs team and the fans. Proceeds from the event benefit the Monarchs Care Foundation and assists in the donation of merchandise, tickets and grants to the community. Head Coach Mark Morris, Assistant Coach Scott Pellerin, Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough and Los Angeles Kings Director of Pro Development/Special Assignments Mike O'Connell will join the team for a day on the golf course with fans and friends. All foursomes will be teamed with a Monarchs player or member of the coaching staff.
