Rochester Americans News Release
Tonight, the Rochester Americans will conclude opening weekend as they look for their first win of the 2008-09 American Hockey League season as the Binghamton Senators make their first of four visits to The Blue Cross Arena. The 6:05 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and whtk.com.
Head to Head: Tonight's contest marks the first of eight meetings between the non-divisional rivals this season. Rochester will look to gain an edge in the season series after posting a 1-6-1 record a year ago against the B-Sens. The Amerks are 19-23-4 all-time against the Ottawa Senators' affiliate.
Amerks Notes: Rochester (0-2-0-0) enters the contest after suffering back-to-back losses as part of a home-and-home series with the Syracuse Crunch. The Amerks dropped a 6-1 decision last night in the second leg of the two-game set at the War Memorial at Oncenter. Karl Stewart recorded his first point as an Amerk scoring Rochester's lone goal of the contest as the goaltending duo of Tyler Plante and Chris Beckford-Tseu split time in net for a combined total of 18 saves. The Amerks fell to the Crunch 4-3 Friday night at The Blue Cross Arena in their home and season-opener, despite outstanding showings from rookie defenseman Jason Garrison and forward Michal Repik, each recording their first professional goals.
Binghamton Notes: The Sens (1-0-0-0) earned their first win of the season with 2-1 shootout victory over the Toronto Marlies on Friday night at Ricoh Coliseum. Josh Hennessy scored in regulation and Brendan Bell and former Amerk Denis Hamel found the back of the net in the shootout to secure the win for Binghamton
Next Game: Rochester will travel west to the MTS Centre for a two-game set with the Manitoba Moose on Friday, October 17th and Saturday, October 18th. Both contests are slated for an 8:30 p.m. EST start and can be heard live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and whtk.com.
