Moar's Brace Helps United Keep Their Top Spot
May 25, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
New Mexico United News Release
(AUSTIN, Texas) New Mexico United defeated Austin Bold FC, 1:3, on Saturday evening, and Santi Moar played the role of instigator. His 29th minute attack led to an Austin own goal, and he finished with two of his own as United retained their spot at the top of the Western Conference table
In the 29th minute, Austin's Amobi Okugo found himself poorly positioned to deal with a Moar cross, and his attempted clearance ended up in the back of the net. Austin's Isaac Promise would equalize for the hosts in the 55th minute, but the joy would prove temporary. Moar capitalized on a 62' free kick opportunity to put the visitors up 1:2, and struck again in the 88' to cap off the United victory.
Austin fired 13 shots at NM Goalkeeper Cody Mizell, but only 3 of them were on target and only 1 slipped past. United found success in ATX and it came from possession (55%) and precision (50% shots on target).
Up next for United is a return to Colorado Springs for a 3rd Round Lamar Hunt Open Cup showdown with Switchbacks FC. The match will kick off at 7 pm MT on Wednesday, May 29th.
