Fury FC Remains Unbeaten in Last 5 Games After 1-1 Draw against Hartford

May 25, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Ottawa Fury FC News Release

OTTAWA - With two consecutive wins and a favourable record while away from home, Ottawa Fury FC headed out on the road once more on Saturday evening to take on Hartford Athletic at the Pratt and Whitney Stadium looking to keep the winning streak alive and build even more momentum before returning to Ottawa. A 1-1 draw was enough for Fury FC to head home unbeaten in its last five matches with eyes steadily set on more.

Fury FC forward Mour Samb scored in the first half to give Ottawa the lead. Hartford levelled it up barely two minutes in the second half on a goal from Dalgaard, and the two sides split the honours with a point each.

STORYLINES

Fury FC forward Mour Samb scored in a third consecutive match, a fifth one with at least one goal for the Ottawa club. Samb finished the evening with 4 shots and one key pass.

With this 4th goal this season, Samb takes the lead amongst Fury FC goal scorers. All four of his goals were scored off his left foot.

After a hectic start of the match that saw Ottawa complete only 60 some passes in the first 22 minutes, Fury FC regained its composure and control of the game following its opening goal, completing 290 total passes in the first half. Fury FC finished the match with 566 passes completed.

Fury FC held the lead at halftime for the 8th time this season, with a record of 5 wins and now 3 draws when scoring first.

POST-GAME COMMENTS

Head Coach Nikola Popovic

"It was a game that started with a lot of tempo and rhythm. But after fifteen or twenty minutes we settled down and were able to impose our game. We started controlling the game, and we scored the goal. We had a couple more chances to score but went to the locker room with the one-goal lead. Unfortunately, in one moment at the beginning of the second half, from a throw-in, there was a bounce and we conceded. We did come back and create enough chances to score at least one more but it wasn't possible."

"We are really frustrated because we wanted to win, however, one point on the road is always somewhat satisfactory. If we can't win we at least want the point."

"I think overall we had a good game. There are some corrections we need to make, for example on the second balls when playing a team like this one, winning second balls could be crucial. And of course, when we have possession, we have to be a bit more precise in our passing because that's how we are going to break the lines of the opponent. This is all part of the learning process of this model and I do believe we are getting better with every game."
