MLS Issues Disciplinary Committee Decisions for Week 6

Published on April 15, 2016 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (April 15, 2016) - The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended LA Galaxy midfielder Nigel de Jong for three games and issued an undisclosed fine for the serious foul play that endangered the safety of an opponent in the 73rd minute of LA's match against the Portland Timbers on April 10.

While de Jong received a yellow card during the match, the Disciplinary Committee was unanimous that the action was a clear and unequivocal red card and the play was of an egregious and reckless nature such that the Committee must act to protect player safety.
