Crew SC to Face-Off against New York City FC

COLUMBUS - Columbus Crew SC (0-3-2, 2 points) returns home to MAPFRE Stadium to take on New York City FC (1-1-3, 6 points) tomorrow, April 16. The contest kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and is set to be televised regionally on The CW Columbus, Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and BCSN2, with Neil Sika, Dwight Burgess and Marisa Contipelli on the call. Coverage on The CW Columbus begins at 7:30 p.m. ET. Exclusively on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and BCSN2, "Crew SC Matchday," the pre-match show hosted by Chris Doran and Marisa Contipelli, begins at 7:00 p.m. ET, with "Crew SC Post-Match" immediately following the action. Tomorrow's match also airs locally on the radio on CD102.5 FM in English, featuring simulcast audio from the television broadcast. La Mega 103.1 FM has the match airing in Spanish, with Juan Valladares behind the microphone. The club's official website, ColumbusCrewSC.com, is set to stream the English-language radio broadcast online.

Saturday's match is the first of three meetings between Columbus Crew SC and New York City FC in 2016. Following this contest, the clubs are slated to play again at MAPFRE Stadium on August 13, followed by a Black & Gold trip to Yankee Stadium for Decision Day on October 23. Crew SC is 1-0-1 all-time against NYCFC, including a 2-2 draw in the clubs' only previous Central Ohio matchup, which took place on August 19, 2015. In their last meeting overall, August 29, 2015 at Yankee Stadium, Crew SC won following a Justin Meram game-winning goal in the 83rd minute. Federico Higuain also tallied for Columbus in the victory.

This tilt is the beginning of a two-match homestand for the Black & Gold as well as a stretch of contests that sees Crew SC play four out of five Major League Soccer regular-season matches at home. Columbus hosts Houston next Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. ET before traveling to Seattle. Following the contest against Sounders FC, Crew SC returns home to face Montreal (May 7) and Colorado (May 14) in League play in addition to its international friendly against Liga MX's Veracruz (May 11).

According to the League's official statistician, Opta, Crew SC currently ranks second in MLS in passes attempted per match with 500.6, trailing only this weekend's opponent, New York City FC, by 21 passes per contest. Crew SC also ranks second in the League in completed passes per match (208) and in overall passing accuracy (81.5%).

Individually, through his first five matches in the 2016 MLS regular season, midfielder Wil Trapp is tied for the League lead in successful passes with 317. Federico Higuain is tied for third in MLS in successful passes in the opposing half (161) while Trapp is tied for fifth in that category (154). Among players with at least 100 passes attempted, Mohammed Saeid ranks third in MLS in passing accuracy (90.6%).
