MLB First-Year Player Draft Begins Today

Spokane, WA -The road to the show begins now for baseball's next wave of stars as the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft starts today at 4:00 p.m live from MLB Network's Studio 42 in Secaucus, New Jersey.

The first round of the draft (picks 1-31) and the compensation round (picks 32-60) will air live on MLB Network and, starting with a draft preview show at 3:00 p.m.

Rounds 2-15 will take place on Tuesday, June 5th starting at 9:00 a.m. followed by rounds 16-40 at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6th.

The Texas Rangers, the major league affiliate of the Indians, have the 29th overall pick in the first round, followed by the 39th overall pick and 53rd overall pick in the supplemental first round, and the 83rd overall pick and 93rd overall pick in the second round.

Last year, the Rangers used their first round and supplemental picks to select Kevin Matthews and Zach Cone, who both spent time in Spokane during the 2011 season.

The signing deadline for players selected in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft is July 13th at 2:00 p.m., over a month earlier than last year's deadline of August 15th.
