MLB First-Year Player Draft Begins Today

Spokane, WA - Fans will have the chance to get their first glimpse at the next wave of big league stars as the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft starts today at 7:00 p.m. (EST).

For the third consecutive year, the first round of the draft and compensation round will air live on MLB Network and MLB.com, starting with a draft preview show at 6:00 p.m. (EST).

Rounds 2-30 will take place on June 7th starting at 12:00 p.m. (EST) followed by rounds 31-50 at 12:00 p.m. (EST) on June 8th. Live coverage for rounds 2-50 can be found on MLB.com.

The Spokane Indians major league affiliate, the Texas Rangers, have the 33rd overall pick (the last pick in the first round), followed closely by the 37th overall pick, which the team received as compensation for failing to sign pitcher Cliff Lee. The Rangers also have the 83rd overall pick in the 2nd round and the 113th overall pick in the 3rd round.

Last year, the Rangers used their first round and supplemental picks to select Jake Skole, Kellin Deglan and Michael Olt, who all spent the season in Spokane, as well as Luke Jackson who signed late and did not play in 2010.
