Milwaukee Wave News Release

After a 6-0 shutout against the Syracuse Silver Knights last weekend, the Six- Time Champion Milwaukee Wave clinched their position in the 2017-2018 Major Arena Soccer League playoffs as they prepare to play against the St. Louis Ambush for the fourth time this season.

This Sunday, January 28th, the Wave will kickoff against the Ambush at 1:05 p.m. at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

"We've had time to recover, practice and focus on things that we're good at," commented Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. "We're continuing to improve and have to refresh players minds to make sure they know what the plan is going into the game Sunday."

As the Wave look to keep building their winning momentum to secure home field advantage in the playoffs, the team is still dealing with players recovering from injuries.

"We have a lot of new guys on the lineup with the injuries we have," said Milwaukee Wave midfielder, number 24, Max Ferdinand. "The team needs everyone. This game is going to be huge for a lot of us."

Coach Oliviero used the example of Milwaukee Wave forward, number 18, Isaac Pereya as one of those players stepping up to the challenge with his "energetic performance" against Syracuse. That was Pereyra's first game of the season.

Milwaukee Wave Midfielder, number 26, and MASL Team of the Week recipient Ian Bennett comments on the upcoming game against the Ambush.

"They're familiar with us and we're familiar with them. So, I think it's going to be a crucial game, but we're going to be ready," said Bennett. "As long as the fans come out we'll bring our game."

He's the biggest Wisconsin sports star you probably don't know.

"He's a promoter. He's a dreamer. An entrepreneur. He's an inspiration, or at least that's his goal." Ian Bennett has just been featured in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for being Milwaukee's best kept secret. The article "He's the biggest Wisconsin sports star you probably don't know" was written by Dave Kallmann after hearing about Bennett's reigning success on and off the field.

"I'm just blessed and happy that Dave Kallmann took the time and sat down to interview me. I feel honored and humbled that he wanted to get my story out," commented Bennett. "I've been here for 11 years and I love this city and people. Honestly, I'm planning on living here forever with my kids growing up here. I'm just enjoying being apart of the community and trying to help out and put my staple on it."

The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced Friday that Milwaukee Wave goalkeeper Josh Lemos was named the Week Thirteen Player of the Week.

He becomes the third Wave player to win the award this season, joining Andre Hayne (Week 7) and Ian Bennett (Weeks, 2 and 8).

The Milwaukee Wave split the weekend's two games. Lemos kept his team in the game until the very end on Thursday, posting a .714 save percentage along the way. Then on Saturday, Lemos put on a show and produced only the second shutout this season.

That win enabled the Wave to be the first team to clinch a spot in the 2018 Ron Newman Cup Tournament.

Milwaukee hosts the St Louis Ambush this Sunday at 2:05 p.m. ET / 1:05 p.m. CT at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

A win in that game, or a Kansas City victory over Cedar Rapids on Sunday, will clinch the team's first ever MASL Central Division title.
