
Missouri Wins First Place Showdown

Independence, MO - Saturday night was the final night of the week long road trip for the Allen Americans as they took on the Missouri Mavericks. Both of these clubs are part of a three-way tie for 1st place in the Central Hockey League alongside the Rapid City Rush all with 56 points.
Allen sprinted out of the gate in the opening minutes, Jonathan Zion scored his 1st goal of the year just 23 seconds into the contest, assisted by Darryl Bootland. Then Darryl Bootland scored his 16th goal of the season, assisted by Kale Kerbashian at 2:17 to take the early 2-0 lead over Missouri. Missouri answered back a few minutes later when Mike Ramsay lit the lamp at 5:34, with assists coming from Colt King and Trevor Kell. The Mavericks led in shots on goal in the period by a count of 11-6 but Allen held the important lead on the scoreboard 2-1.
Missouri brought the game level on a goal by Andrew Courtney at 3:26 of the second period with Sebastian Thinel and Eric Castonguay earning the helpers. The Americans regained the lead on Jamie Schaafsma's 9th goal of the season, assisted by Brian McMillin at 15:49 but the lead was short lived as Eric Castonguay answered back for Missouri just 8 seconds later to tie the score 3-3. Sebastian Thinel and Colten Hayes earned the assists on the Castonguay goal at the 15:57 mark.
Missouri got their first lead of the night on Mike Ramsay's power play goal, his second goal of the game scored at the 31 second mark of the final frame with assists from Andrew Courtney and Sebastian Thinel. Colt King then extended the Missouri lead to 5-3 with his power play goal at 13:53, assisted by Trevor Kell and Obi Aduba. Rob Kleebaum cemented the Missouri victory with an empty net goal scored at the 19:12 mark of the third period. Missouri outshot Allen again in the third period 9-8 for a three period shot total 35-24 in favor of the Mavericks.
Allen returns home to play the Arizona Sundogs on Thursday night with the puck drop scheduled for 7:05PM.
