Mississippi Falls to Jacksonville 7-2 in Game 5

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (32-43) were defeated by the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (30-43) by a final score of 7-2 on Monday night in game five of the six-game series at Trustmark Park. Despite the loss, M-Braves starter Enderson Franco recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts in his Monday night outing.

The Jumbo Shrimp bats heated up early, as they scored a run in each of the first three innings. The Jumbo Shrimp jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Peter O'Brien singled on a soft fly ball to left field, scoring Isan Diaz from second base.

Jacksonville picked up their second run of the game in the top of the second inning when Nick Neidert sent a fly ball double to center field and Rodrigo Vigil scored from second base.

Monte Harrison produced Jacksonville's third run of the game after he sent a solo homer over the left field wall, giving the Jumbo Shrimp a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

The Jumbo Shrimp offense collected three insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning. Brian Miller scored the first run of the inning on a fielding error by M-Braves right fielder Tyler Neslony. Eric Jagielo then doubled on a line drive to left field, plating Diaz from second base. Jacksonville finished off their scoring in the top of the fifth inning courtesy of a balk, extending their lead 6-0.

The M-Braves got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning via a sharp fly ball double from the bat of Luis Valenzuela. Both Alex Jackson and Luis Marte scored on Valenzuela's double, making the score 6-2.

Jacksonville scored their seventh and final run of the game in the top of the sixth inning as Harrison singled on a ground ball to third base, scoring Brain Schales from third base.

Neidert (7-4, 3.11) was credited with the win for Jacksonville while Franco (2-5, 3.68) suffered the loss for Mississippi.

The M-Braves currently lead the series 3-2 and will look to earn a series victory tomorrow night (Tuesday, June 26) when they take on the Jumbo Shrimp in series finale of the six-game series at Trustmark Park at 7:00 p.m. (CST.) Atlanta Braves No. 3 overall prospect, Kyle Wright (4-7, 4.11) will make his second start of the series on Tuesday night. Wright's counterpart on the mound will come in the form of Jacksonville RHP Robert Dugger (1-2, 5.33.) Tuesday night's game will feature the Two for Tuesday promotion presented by Polk's Meat Products & WJTV 12 Getting You Answers (fans can exchange a Polk's Meat Products label at the Trustmark Park Box Office for two tickets for the price of one, excluding Suite Level and Club Level seats. All hot dogs and 16 oz. soft drinks will also be two for the price one.)
