Winning Streak Snapped as BayBears Fall to Smokies

MOBILE, Ala. - The winning streak for the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, came to an end at three games following an 11-3 loss to the Tennessee Smokies Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.

After Tennessee (38-37 overall, 2-3 second half) grabbed an early 8-0 lead, Jack Kruger got the BayBears (40-33, 3-2) on the board with his first Double-A home run to begin the fourth inning. Luis Rengifo and Brennon Lund plated runs with consecutive two-out hits in the seventh. It was Rengifo's 16th RBI and 12th multi-hit game with Mobile.

Joe Gatto (1-3) took the loss, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits in four innings pitched. Daniel Procopio pitched two scoreless, hitless innings of relief. Dario Beltre gave up a home run in seventh but settled in, finishing the game with a pair of scoreless frames.

Duncan Robinson (4-1) recorded a quality start, allowing just one run on five hits in six innings. Eddy Martinez drove in a career-high five runs, and Zach Short went 3-for-5 with a three-run triple in the fourth.

The BayBears wrap up the six-game home series against Tennessee Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jason Alexander (0-0, 0.75 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Thomas Hatch (5-4, 3.84 ERA) for the Smokies.
