SAN ANTONIO,TEXAS - Mike Olt hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning, however the Missions offense proved too much, as the "ËRiders fell in the series finale Saturday night 9-4 at Wolff Municipal Stadium. In the game, the home team scored four runs on two separate occasions, to avoid a four-game sweep.
San Antonio took its first lead of the series in the bottom of the third inning. TJ Steele led off the frame with a base hit off "ËRiders starter Tim Murphy (2-7) . The Missions centerfielder advanced to third on a base knock by Jeudy Valdez, while Steele scored on a single by Bryan Altman.
The Missions added four runs an inning later. After Nate Freiman led off with a walk, Jake Blackwood socked a 2-run homer off Murphy to make it 3-0. Jeudy Valdez and Bryan Altman also added RBIs, as San Antonio sent all nine men to bat.
Trailing by five, the "ËRiders trimmed the deficit to a run in the fifth. Jared Prince reached on a hit-by-pitch, and moved to second on a bunt base hit by Engel Beltre. A walk by Jurickson Profar loaded the bases for Mike Olt, who drilled a grand slam over the left-field wall. It was Olt's 19th home run of the season, and the first grand slam of his career.
After going quietly in the fifth, San Antonio restored its lead to five in the home-half of the sixth. In the inning, Robert Kral, Jeudy Valdez, Bryan Altman, and Ali Solis all recorded doubles off "ËRiders reliever Fabio Castillo.
Hayden Beard (4-4) earned the win for San Antonio tossing 5.2 innings. He allowed four runs on five hits, walked three, and struck out one. Tim Murphy suffered the loss, lasting three-plus innings, and surrendering five runs (all earned).
Frisco begins an eight game homestand Sunday night when the Midland RockHounds visit Dr Pepper Ballpark. The Riders will send out their ace Justin Grimm (8-3, 1.67), he will be opposed by RockHounds right-hander Dan Straily (3-4, 3.79). Grimm leads the Texas League in ERA, while Straily leads the circuit in strikeouts. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05, and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com.
