San Antonio Missions News Release

SAN ANTONIO - After losing nine consecutive games, the San Antonio Missions had a chance to clinch their first victory in 12 days. With two outs in the ninth, Amarillo tied the game and forced extras. In the 11th inning, control issues got to Ramon Perez as he loaded the bases and walked in the game-winning run. The Missions fall to Amarillo 11-10 and the losing streak extends to 10 games.

The San Antonio Missions offense wasted no time getting an early lead against Bryce Jarvis. Esteury Ruiz started off the game by drawing a walk. This extended his on-base streak to 13 games. Robert Podorsky grounded out and Ruiz advanced to second. Ruiz came around to score after stealing third base. On the stolen base attempt, there was a fielding error from third baseman Ti'Quan Forbes which allowed Ruiz to score. The Missions took an early 1-0 lead.

The weather stole the show during the first inning of play. There was some rain in the top half of the inning but it seemed to subside in the bottom half of the inning. Play was stopped after hail started falling from the sky. The players quickly made their way off the field as the grounds crew rushed onto the field.

After a 20-minute hail delay, the Missions offense picked up right where they left and scored two more runs. Korry Howell started off the inning by getting hit by a pitch. He quickly came around to score as Agustin Ruiz legged out an RBI triple. Following a strikeout, Chandler Seagle scored Ruiz by hitting a groundball to second base. The Missions improved their lead to 3-0.

The Amarillo offense put two runs on the board in the second inning to cut into the lead. Facing off against Missions starter Matt Waldron, Leandro Cedeno started the inning with a single. After inducing a double play, Jorge Barrosa kept the inning alive with his first career Double-A hit. Juan Centeno followed that up with a two-run home run over the left field wall. The Missions held a 3-2 lead.

The Sod Poodles took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third inning. Nick Dalesandro began the inning with a base hit and Eduardo Diaz followed him with a single of his own. Dalesandro scored on the third consecutive single, this time from Jancarlos Cintron. After a fly out, Leandro Cedeno drove in Diaz with an RBI single. Lastly, Forbes scored a run after hitting a sacrifice fly. Amarillo now led 5-3.

San Antonio cut into the deficit by adding a run in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs in the inning, Connor Hollis reached base with a single. Seagle drove in his second run of the game with an RBI single to center field. It was now a 5-4 ballgame.

The Missions used the long ball in the fifth inning to regain the lead. Brandon Dixon drew a one-out walk against reliever Jeff Bain. Yorman Rodriguez made him pay with a two-run home run. His second long ball of the season made it a 6-5 Missions lead.

San Antonio added some insurance runs in the sixth inning. Agustin Ruiz led off the inning by hitting his second home run of the season. With one out in the inning, Seagle reached base with a double. After recording out number two, Podorsky reached base on a throwing error and Seagle advanced to third base. Dixon drove both runners in after ripping a double to left field. The Missions improved their lead to 9-5.

Henry Henry replaced Waldron in the bottom of the sixth inning. The tall right-hander faced some trouble against the Soddies. After recording the first two outs of the inning, Henry walked Dalesandro. He then allowed a double to Diaz to place two runners in scoring position. Cintron drove in both runners with a double of his own. Amarillo cut the lead to 9-7.

The Missions added a 10th run in the seventh inning. San Antonio loaded the bases after Howell was hit by a pitch, and eventually caught stealing, Agustin Ruiz walked, Connor Hollis walked, and Seagle was hit by a pitch. Ruiz came around to score after Esteury Ruiz drew a bases-loaded walk.

Amarillo started a late comeback attempt against Missions reliever Mason Fox. Diaz singled before Cintron reached base on a fielder's choice. A wild pitch moved Cintron into scoring position. Andy Yerzy drove him with an RBI single to left field. The Missions still held a two-run lead.

The Missions were one out away from locking up their first win in 12 days. Kevin Kopps retired the first two batters in the bottom of the ninth inning before walking Juan Centeno. Drew Stankiewicz made the Missions pay with a game-tying two-run home run.

In the 10th inning, Seagle was automatically placed on second base. He was left stranded after Blake Workman struck out the side. Ramon Perez came on to pitch the 10th inning for the Missions. Diaz started the inning at second base. Cintron moved him to third after a sacrifice bunt. Perez then walked Yerzy to put runners on the corners with one out. After Yerzy stole second base, Perez struck out Leandro Cedeno for out number two. The inning came to an end after Diaz attempted to steal home and was tagged out by Seagle behind the plate.

In the 11th inning, Dixon was placed at second base to start the inning. Workman got Rodriguez to fly out, Jorge Ona to strikeout, and Howell to strikeout to end the inning. For Amarillo, Cedeno started at second base and Perez walked Forbes to start the inning. The southpaw recovered and struck out Barrosa for out number one. Amarillo loaded the bases following a walk to Centeno. With Stankiewicz at the plate, Perez struck him out swinging for out number two. However, Perez lost control of the strike zone and walked in the winning run with a bases-loaded walk to Dominic Fletcher.
