Sanford Mainers News Release

LACONIA, Nh. - Sanford hit the road looking to create the same it had against Winnipesaukee on Sunday. However, 10 runners left on base for the Mainers helped the Muskrats get the last laugh Thursday night, 3-2.

It was a pair of teammates battling it out on the mound, Sonny Fauci (St. Johns) got the nod for the Mainers, while Geoffrey Mosseau (St. Johns) started for Winnipesaukee.

After leaving runners on base in three of the first four innings, Sanford finally broke through in the fifth with fellow Red Storm teammate Jayson Kramer (St. Johns) scoring on a wild pitch, 1-0.

Winnipesaukee would get a run home to tie in the bottom half, Kohl Abrams (UNC-Asheville) beat out an infield single allowing Patrick Roche (Boston College) to score, 1-1.

The Muskrats would take the lead in the seventh on the RBI single from Cole Palmeri (Colby) which brought home Grayson Preslar (UNC-Asheville), 2-1 Winnipesaukee.

In the top of eighth, the birthday boy, Marco Castillo (Georgetown), came up clutch for the Mainers, driving in Quinn McDaniel (Maine) tying the game at 2.

However, in the bottom of the eighth, it was Winnipesaukee that delivered the final blow.

After loading the bases with no outs and chasing Blake MacMillan (Niagra), Brian Craven (Davidson) came in and on his first batter faced Grayson Preslar grounded out but did enough to bring home Tyler Grodell from third.

Sanford put two on in the top of the ninth but Chris Flynn shut the door and gave Winnipesaukee the redemption win.

The loss extends the Mainers losing skid to three in a row and puts them at 1-8 on the year.

Sanford returns home for a Friday night showdown with the North Adams Steeplecats. Kyle Magrans (Vanderbilt) is the expected starter for the Mainers with the first pitch coming around the 6:30 p.m. mark.
