WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. - The Sanford Mainers took the lead early and outhit Upper Valley but a handful of errors paved the way for the Nighthawks to take the second meeting of the season, 6-3.

The loss drops Sanford to 1-6, while the Nighthawks get back to .500, 3-3.

In the top of the second, Adam Dapkewicz (Georgetown) started with a leadoff double and came around to score as Grant Knipp (Campbell) continued his hot start with an RBI single, 1-0.

The miscues began in the bottom half of the second when William Sullivan (Troy) hit a grounder to Marco Castillo (Georgetown), whose throw to first went off target, allowing Logan Eickhoff (Eastern Illinois) to score from third.

Then when Sullivan took off for second, the throw skipped into the outfield, Jonathan Hogart (Louisiana Tech) was already going and scored easily as he stole home, 2-1.

Then in the fifth, Jake Poindexter came onto the mound and gave up a run, but the biggest play came with two outs.

A grounder created the chance to get out of the inning, but the throw from Quinn McDaniel (Maine) popped out of the glove of Aidan Kane (Delaware) and got away from him, two runners would score on the error, 6-1.

In the seventh, MJ Lucas (UNC-Asheville) would score on the infield single from Kevin Skagerlind (UMass), but a lineout from Devan Bade (Binghamton) with the bases loaded ended the threat.

Dapkewicz would score in the eighth off the sacrifice fly from Lucas, but Sanford couldn't create any ninth-inning magic.

The Mainers return home to face the Newport Gulls at Goodall Park with the opening pitch slated for approximately 6:30 p.m. Ryan Douglas is expected to be on the bump.
