Fort Worth Cats News Release

Marc Mirizzi was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer Saturday night as the Cats defeated Shreveport 7-2 in front of 3,839 fans at LaGrave Field.

The win snapped the Cats' two-game losing streak and moved them to within 2 1/2 games of Coastal Bend for first place in the South. Shreveport's two-game winning streak came to an end with the loss.

The game was scoreless heading to the bottom of the second when Jordan Foster doubled home Carlos Adolfo to make it 1-0 Cats. The next batter, Mirizzi hit his first homer of the season, a two-run blast to right, to give the Cats a 3-0 lead.

Shreveport made it close by scoring a run in the fifth and one in the sixth, but would never tie it up. The Cats added insurance runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to pull away with a 7-2 win.

Cats' starter Kevin Hull (2-2) earned the victory after going five innings and allowing two runs on seven hits. Hull struck out a season-high nine batters and walked three.

Relievers James Casey, Justin Garcia and Steve Wilkerson combined for four innings of shutout relief for Fort Worth.

Bert Snow (2-1) suffered the loss as he allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings pitched.

The finale of the three-game series is Sunday night at 7:05 p.m. Joel Kirsten makes his first start for the Cats with Eric Wikstrom on the mound for the Sports.
