Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

LAKELAND, FL (June 8, 2006) - Every game is crucial for the Fort Myers Miracle down the stretch and with the Dunedin Blue Jays losing on Thursday night the Miracle had a chance to take over sole possession of first place in the FSL Western Division, but they lost 3-2 to the Lakeland Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium.

The Miracle, who are now 34-26 and remain tied for first with 10 games to play, jumped out to the 1-0 lead in the third when they loaded the bases with nobody out. Korey Feiner was hit by a pitch and Justin Arneson reached on an infield single. Alexi Casilla laid down a perfect bunt and reached on a single to load the bases. Garrett Guzman then ripped a shot to right that sent Garth McKinney to the wall where he made the catch a foot in front of the fence. Feiner scored to make it 1-0. Matt Tolbert, however, ended the inning by grounding into a double play, a feat the Miracle would accomplish four times.

The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the inning when Justin Jones walked the lead off man Clete Thomas. Brent Dlugach followed with a double to put runners at second and third. Chris Robinson's ground out scored Thomas to tie the game at one. Gilberto Mejia followed with a sac fly, one of only two fly ball outs the Tigers hit into all night. With two outs Nick McIntyre doubled to right and then Jeff Frazier's ground ball was booted by Matt Tolbert which allowed Frazier to score and make it 3-1.

The Miracle scored a run in the fifth, but could have gotten more. Luke Hughes and Feiner started the inning with back-to-back singles. Arneson sacrificed them over. The Miracle made it 3-2 when Casilla walked and on ball four the pitch got away from the catcher and allowed Hughes to score. Casilla stole second and then Guzman was intentionally walked to load the bases. Tolbert then flew out to center and Feiner tried to score, but was thrown out at the plate.

Miracle starter Justin Jones went 6.0 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits while walking two and striking out seven.

The same two teams meet again on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The Miracle send LHP Brian Duensing, making his first start since joining the Miracle from Single-A Beloit. The Tigers send RHP Kyle Sleeth (0-1, 9.00).
