Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
DUNEDIN, FL - RHP Kohl Stewart (W, 3-1) shut down the Dunedin Blue Jays (15-23) over six innings en route to a 5-2 win for the Fort Myers Miracle (22-16) in their series opener on Monday night. Stewart, the fourth overall pick for the Twins in 2013, allowed three hits and fanned four over six scoreless innings.
RHP Brad Allen (L, 3-2) allowed a solo home run to SS Nick Gordon in the first inning and settled down until the fifth. Once there, Allen allowed four runs on three hits, three walks and an error before exiting the game. Two of the four Miracle runs in the inning came on a 2B Logan Wade triple. 3B Chris Paul followed with a double.
RHP Chris Rowley relieved Allen, inheriting the bases loaded and forcing CF Max Murphy into an inning-ending 5-2-3 double play. Rowley tossed a season high 4.2 innings in relief and didn't allow a run.
The Jays made their comeback attempt in the final inning with RHP Raul Fernandez on the mound. C Michael De La Cruz sent a towering home run to right field, cutting the lead to three. Later in the frame, with the tying run in the on-deck circle, LF Anthony Alford flied out to center to end things.
Both Alford and RF Derrick Loveless contributed in the early going in the field with a pair of outfield assists, nabbing runners at the plate in the second and third. 2B Devon Travis recorded an infield single in four at bats in his third rehab appearance for Dunedin.
The second game of this series will be an 11 am start on an Education Day on Tuesday. RHP Francisco Rios makes his second start of the year for Dunedin opposing LHP Tyler Jay.
