
Errors Cost Evans, Cardinals

Jupiter, FL - The Lakeland Flying Tigers (22-16) took advantage of three Cardinals errors on the evening to propel them to a 5-1 victory over the Palm Beach Cardinals (15-24).
The Rundown
Jacob Evans (2-3) would pitch seven strong inning of five hit baseball, but would suffer from three errors that would lead to four unearned runs. Tyler Alexander (3-3) would pitch seven innings of shutout baseball as well and get the win for the Tigers.
Lakeland would score first in the third inning as Joey Hawkins made errors on back to back plays at third to allow the first two base runners to reach. Evans would then get a strike out and a fly out to right to put two outs on the board and it looked like he would get out of the inning. On the very next pitch A.J. Simcox would lace a single to left allowing Joey Pankake to come around and score the first run of the game.
The Cardinals would get a few hits over the next couple of innings, but would be unable to string any together to get a rally going. The Tigers would then extend their lead in the sixth as they would score three runs on three hits. Simcox would reach on an error to lead off the inning. Christin Stewart would then bring him home on a double to deep, left center. Evans would then get a ground out and the hit Mike Gerber for the second time on the night to put runners on first and second with one away. Zach Shepherd would hit a single to load the bases and Evans would get another strike out to make it two out in the sixth. Casey Greiner would then come to the plate and hit the first pitch he saw on the screws and drive in two runs to make it a 4-0 game.
The Tigers would score one more run in the eighth off of Harley Holt to make it a 5-0 game. The Cardinals would then try to threaten in the eighth as they drew three walks in the inning with one out to load the bases. Blake Drake would then drive in a run on a ground out to second to make it 5-1. Oscar Mercado would end the inning by striking out looking to end any chance of a comeback on the evening. 4 - The Tigers scored four runs off starting pitcher, Evans, but all of them were unearned.
Notes
Palm Beach made three errors in the field tonight, making that 13 in the past five games.
Cardinals have now lost 15 of their last 16 and pushed their record in the month of May to 1-15.
Palm Beach would record seven hits on the evening, all singles.
Chris Rivera is the only player on the active roster hitting above .300 on the season, with a .333 batting average after having a multi-hit game tonight.
Next Up
Palm Beach and Lakeland will continue their four game series tomorrow at 6:30 PM. Palm Beach will send Matt Pearce (3-1) to the mound to try and get back in the win column, as the Tigers will look to Jairo Labourt (3-1).
