Clearwater Threshers News Release
Zach Green finished a triple short of the cycle on Monday as the Clearwater Threshers rallied back to win 8-5 over the St. Lucie Mets in the series opener at Tradition Field.
Green turned in a 4-for-4 night, including a double, a homer, and three runs scored. The longball was his fifth of the season, a solo fly to left in the fourth inning.
Carlos Tocci launched his first home run of the year, a two-run shot in the ninth that lifted the Threshers to a 8-5 advantage.
Clearwater (25-13) came from behind with three runs in the seventh inning, taking advantage of a series of Mets miscues.
It was Green who got it going with a single to right, and Kyle Martin followed with a ground-rule double to right-center to put the tying run in scoring position.
Gabriel Lino grounded out, but that permitted Green to score and cut the deficit to one. After Malquin Canelo reached on a error, a wild pickoff attempt by pitcher Robert Coles (1-1) combined with a wild pitch allowed the Threshers to plate two more runs and take the lead.
Victor Arano (1-0) was dominant in relief, allowing just one baserunner in three innings. He set down the first eight men he faced in order before an Amed Rosario double in the seventh.
Clearwater trailed early, after the Mets (20-17) plated three runs against starter Thomas Eshelman in the first inning. The Threshers kept it close, as Lino came through in the second with a two-run double.
Lino knocked in three runs and finished 1-for-4, as the Threshers catcher now has a hit in nine consecutive games.
Rehabbing Phillie Cody Asche finished 0-for-5, playing all nine innings in left field.
Ulises Joaquin worked the final two frames in relief, securing his first save of the season.
The series continues on Tuesday when the Threshers battle the Mets at 6:30 p.m. Matt Imhof (4-1) will toe the rubber against Ricky Knapp (3-2).
