Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

JUPITER, FL (May 15, 2006) - Jeremy Pickrel wanted to change his luck, so on the off day he got a little bored and decided to shave his head completely bald. He may be starting a trend after the night he had as Pickrel hit a two run homer and drove in three runs as the Fort Myers Miracle defeated the Palm Beach Cardinals 6-2 on Monday night at Roger Dean Stadium.

After Kyle Geiger extended his hitting streak to seven games with a lead off double in the second, Pickrel ripped a two run homer over the center field wall to give the Miracle a 2-0 lead.

Miracle starter Anthony Swarzak was solid in his five innings of work and only ran into trouble in the third. He gave up a lead off single to Joe Mather and followed that with a walk to Tyler Greene. After Juan Lucena sacrificed them over, Ryan Barthelemy singled the two home to tie the game at two. Swarzak went 5.0 innings allowing two runs on four hits while walking one and striking out eight in earning his second victory of the season.

The Miracle, who moved to 21-16, took the lead for good in the fifth when Deacon Burns doubled and with two outs Matt Tolbert singled him home to give the Miracle a 3-2 lead.

In the sixth, the Miracle put together five straight singles and scored three runs. Garret Guzman and Geiger started it off to put runners at first and third. Pickrel drove home Guzman with a single to left. Trevor Plouffe singled to right to load the bases. Johnny Woodard's infield singled scored Geiger and Korey Feiner's RBI ground out scored the final run of the inning.

The Miracle bullpen was stellar with Tim Lahey going 3.0 shutout innings allowing one run on one hit while striking out four and Ryan Callahan pitching a perfect ninth.

The same two teams meet Tuesday evening at 6:35 at Roger Dean Stadium. The Miracle send RHP Kevin Slowey (2-1, 1.31) to the hill against Cardinals RHP Blake Hawksworth (4-2, 2.87).
