Published on January 28, 2010 under American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
This Friday, a "Miracle on Ice" will be taking place at Quicken Loans Arena, courtesy of Kaiser Permanente. Jim Craig, the goaltender who led Team USA to a gold medal in 1980 at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, will be at the Lake Erie Monsters game. The Monsters will be celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the "Miracle on Ice," when the American hockey team infamously defeated the Russians on the way to capturing the gold. Craig will hold a pregame autograph session and will take part in the ceremonial puck drop. Additionally, in honor of the Olympic celebration, the Monsters will be wearing one-of-a-kind 1980 USA Olympic-inspired uniforms, which will be auctioned off at the end of the night.
Craig's autograph session will begin at 6:30 p.m. before the Monsters host the Toronto Marlies at 7:30 p.m. Craig will only be able to sign photos provided by the Monsters at the event. After the autograph session, he will drop the puck to begin the game against the Marlies.
In keeping with the Olympic spirit on Friday, the Monsters will wear 1980 USA Hockey-inspired jerseys with the letters "LEM" stitched across the front and the players' names on the back. After the game, the team will auction off the limited-edition game-worn jerseys.
In addition to all the red, white and blue fun, it's another Dollar Dog Friday, courtesy of Sugardale, Pepsi and FOX Sports Ohio. Fans will be able to enjoy hot dogs and 16 oz. sodas for just one dollar each. Plus, everyone's invited to bring their skates and stay after the game for a postgame skate presented by Tri-C.
Tickets, starting at only $10, for Friday's game are still available and can be purchased by calling (216) 420-0000, by visiting LakeErieMonsters.com or by visiting any Northern Ohio Discount Drug Mart.
The Lake Erie Monsters are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and are also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Majority Owner and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert.
