FORT MYERS, FL (July 15, 2006) - Barring any rainouts the Fort Myers Miracle will play their 2000th game in Fort Myers franchise history on Sunday afternoon, July 16 when they take on the Dunedin Blue Jays at Knology Park in Dunedin.

The Miracle, who are celebrating their 15th season in Southwest Florida, won their 1000th game while in Fort Myers on June 2 against the Daytona Cubs, in an 11-6 victory at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

The Miracle franchise has been around since 1926 and was known as the Fort Myers Palm before moving to Miami in 1927. They were known as the Miami Hustlers from 1927-28 and then reappeared as the Miami Marlins from 1962-70. They became an Orioles affiliate from 1971-81 and went back to being known as the Miami Marlins from 1982-98. They changed their name to the Miami Miracle from 1989-91 before moving to Fort Myers in 1992 where they were a co-op team, earning 46 victories in its first season. They became an affiliate of the Twins in 1993, a relationship that has stayed ever since.

The Fort Myers Miracle set a franchise record for victories in 2000 with 83, the year they won the second half division title. During their first 14 seasons they have averaged 69 victories and as of Friday night's victory they are 1016-976 in Fort Myers franchise history, 48-42 during 2006.

The Miracle three division titles were second half titles in 1995 and 2000 and a first half title in 2003. The Miracle nearly won a fourth division title this season, finishing tied for first place in the first half with the Blue Jays at 38-32. The Miracle, however, lost the first half season series 4-2 to the Blue Jays, giving the Blue Jays the Western Division.

The Miracle are currently 10-10 in the second half of the season, fourth place in the Western Division, just a game and a half out of first place. The Miracle return home on Tuesday night for an eight game homestand, four against the Jupiter Hammerheads and four against the Palm Beach Cardinals.
