Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

DUNEDIN, FL - The Fort Myers Miracle apparently have no idea how to beat the Dunedin Blue Jays at Knology Park, falling to 0-7 against the Blue Jays in their home stadium. In a bizarre game that saw the Miracle tie the ball game after trailing by five, it was a walk off base hit that doomed the Miracle in a 10-9 loss to the Blue Jays on Saturday night.

The Miracle had given up 55 runs in six games to the Blue Jays at Knology Park and Saturday night was no different, except for the fact the Miracle put up nine runs of their own.

The Blue Jays looked like they were going to run away and hide yet again, scoring eight runs in the first two innings, but the Miracle scored at least one run in each of the first six innings. It was the bottom of the ninth, however, where the Miracle felt the most pain. With the game tied at nine and Cory Patton at first with one out, J.P. Martinez got Chris Gutierrez on strikes, but Patton stole second and advanced to third when Caleb Moore's throw went into center field. After a walk to Scott Dragicevich, Juan Peralta looped a 1-2 pitch into left field for the game winning hit.

The Miracle, who fell to 10-11, took the early 1-0 lead in the first when Brock Peterson's infield single scored J.R. Taylor, but that would be the last lead for the Miracle.

The Blue Jays scored four in the first on an RBI double by Robinson Diaz, a two run double by Eric Arnold and an RBI single by Patton.

The Miracle made it 4-3 with two in the second on an RBI single by Brandon Roberts, who finished the night 4-5 with a double, RBI and two runs scored extending his hitting streak to nine games, and an RBI ground out by Taylor.

The Blue Jays, however, put up another four spot in the second on an RBI single by Carlo Cota, another two run double by Arnold and an RBI single by Patton. Miracle starter Justin Jones went 1.2 innings allowing eight runs on nine hits while walking one and striking out one.

The Miracle began their come back in the third when Steve Tolleson doubled home Peterson and Tolleson scored on Moore's ground rule double to make it 8-5.

With the score 9-5 in the fourth, Roberts led off with a double and scored on Taylor's RBI single. The Miracle tacked on another run in the fifth on Trevor Plouffe's solo homer to left-center, his second of the season.

The comeback was completed in the sixth when Roberts led off with an infield single and advanced to second on Taylor's sac bunt. Taylor was safe at first when catcher Robinson Diaz' throw was wide. David Winfree knocked home Roberts which sent Taylor to second. Taylor went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Tolleson's fielders choice.

Danny Powers restored order for the Miracle by hurling 4.0 innings of one hit shutout relief while walking one and striking out five, but for the Miracle it was the same story at Knology Park, another loss.

The same two teams meet Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Knology Park. The Miracle send RHP Josh Hill (5-2, 5.72) to the mound against Blue Jay LHP Kurt Isenberg (0-0, 0.00)
