Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, FL (July 1, 2006) - The Fort Myers Miracle just finished their six game road trip by scoring just 13 runs, but the good news is they will get some much needed help as infielders David Winfree, the 2005 Twins Minor League Player of the Year and Steve Tolleson, a Midwest League All-Star this season, were added to the roster.

The 20-year-old Winfree began the season with the Miracle hitting .320-0-6 in six games before being hit on the thumb with a pitch. Winfree was sent to the disabled list to make room for Ruben Sierra on April 13 and then went to extended spring to rehab his right elbow. He had surgery to remove bone chips from the elbow in the off season. Winfree hit .294-16-101 last season at Beloit. He was a 13th round pick by the Twins out of First Colonial (VA) High School.

The 22-year-old Tolleson was one of nine Beloit Snappers to be voted to the Midwest League All-Star team. He was hitting .287-2-16 in 47 games. In 171 at bats he roped eight doubles and two triples while walking 27 times and striking out 34. Tolleson was hit by a pitch in the face and has been rehabbing over at the GCL. He was a 5th round pick of the Twins in 2005 out of the University of South Carolina.

To make room on the roster for Winfree and Tolleson, Juan Delgado and Mike Cowgill return to the GCL. Delgado was 3-9 in two games with one homer and two RBI while Cowgill was 0-7 with a run scored in two games.

The Miracle roster now stands at 24 players, one shy of the league maximum of 25, 11 pitchers and 13 position players.
