Brevard County Manatees News Release
On Monday morning, July 3rd, the Brevard County Manatees will be out on the road and won't return until Wednesday, July 12th. During that nine-day stretch without a home game the Manatees front office staff will begin the team's most intensive, if not physical, grass roots marketing campaign in franchise history.
From Scottsmoor to Sebastian Inlet, we'll walk the 74.4 miles down US 1 (from Volusia County in the north to Indian River County in the south), right thru the heart of Brevard County to promote the team, gather feedback/suggestions from fans and make new friends along the way.
We'll sleep in a tent anywhere we find ourselves at day's end with no other plan that to head south and talk Manatees baseball and promotions with the people of Brevard County.
I'll be the first to admit our staff isn't the norm when compared to other teams, but I am proud to admit that they're loaded full of energy and have vision and a 'the-sky's-the-limit' mentality...they are unquestionably the most fired-up staff I've ever worked with in a decade or so of baseball and if you couple that with a new ownership group that takes a step back and let's us do our thing, well, that's an unbeatable combination for fun.
We have come to realize in a county this large that there's only so much you can do with a car, telephone, computer, fax machine and traditional advertising. I think during the past couple years we have grown into a routine that actually has kept us away from reaching the heart and soul of the county. But it's time to go back to the grass roots approach. We're sure that if we really want to reach the residents of Brevard County we have to get out of the office and meet people face-to-face and, because we only have eight homes in the month of July, the schedule-makers have handed us an excellent opportunity that we can't pass up. There's nothing more personal than sharing hopes and dreams with Brevard County residents while outside of the stadium and not having anything else on an agenda. The quality time is now there.
Our offices will remain open during this stretch for normal business with the exception of Monday and Tuesday (July 3rd and 4th) when members of our staff will be walking the county, attending the Manatees game in Daytona Beach against the Cubs or enjoying a rare day off.
So, if you're traveling on US 1 next week, stop by and say hi to our staff members on âThe Buck Stopped Here' tour. We'll be living light and any offers of cold drinks will be welcome and rewarded with game tickets to our 'Dress Like a Pirate' Night on Wednesday, July 12th. Bring us your suggestions and ideas. I can guarantee you that there won't be a phone ringing to cut you short. There won't be another appointment booked where we have to run off. Heck, you might even get a chance to catch the ownership group if we can drag 'em away from Orlando. I don't know what's going to happen, but rain or shine, we're taking our team to the streets to pick your brain next week.
If you have a case of road fever or you're just a lifelong Road Scholar, you're always willing to join us for a few miles. - The Brevard County Manatees Staff.
