Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, FL - The Fort Myers Miracle still can't figure out the team they battled for 70 games with in the first half as they lost to the Dunedin Blue Jays for the fifth straight time and eighth time in 10 meetings, 4-0 on Saturday evening at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle, who fell to 3-6 in the second half, committed 12 errors in being swept by the Blue Jays just a few days ago. The errors once again cost them on Saturday, as they committed three more, extending their streak of error plagued ballgames to 10. In the fourth, Eric Nielsen led off with a single to center. Corey Patton followed with a bunt that Miracle pitcher Brian Duensing fielded, but his throw to first was too late and got away from Brock Peterson which allowed Nielsen to take third. David Corrente's double play ball scored Nielsen to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.

In the sixth, with one out, Eric Arnold singled to center. Nielsen hit a grounder to Peterson at first and his throw to Trevor Plouffe covering second went off his glove and moved Arnold to third and sent Nielsen to second. With the infield in, Patton hit a hard shot off the glove of second baseman Steve Tolleson for a single that allowed Arnold to score ad make it 2-0. A sac fly by David Corrente made it 3-0. Duensing went 6.0 innings allowing three unearned runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out seven.

The Miracle offense, which scored just 13 runs in the six game road trip, looked like it added some pop with the addition of Midwest League All-Star Tolleson and the 2005 Twins Minor League Player of the Year, David Winfree, but the Miracle were blanked for the seventh time this season. They managed to put runners in scoring position in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but each time with two outs. In the third, Plouffe fouled out to first, Andrus popped out to first in the fourth and Tolleson lined out to right to end the fifth. The Miracle had just one runner as far as third base, Deacon Burns in the third.

The same two teams meet Sunday at 1:05 p.m. with the Miracle sending LHP Jay Sawatski (0-0, 0.00) to the hill against Blue Jays LHP Eric Fowler (6-6, 3.61). It is Family Fun Sundays presented by WWGR 101.9 and WJGO 102.9. It is also a Day with Dora where kids can get their picture taken with Dora.
