FORT MYERS, FL (May 1, 2006) - While the Fort Myers Miracle defense has been shaky at times this season, they managed to help out on Monday night turning five double plays and earning their fifth victory in six games with a 4-3 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays at Hammond Stadium.

The Miracle were able to turn four ground ball double plays, but perhaps the biggest one of the night came in the eighth inning. With the Miracle leading 4-3, the Blue Jays had runners at first and second and nobody out. Josh Hill struck out David Corrente and then Christopher Gutierrez hit a liner to right field in which Jeremy Pickrel made a running grab. Juan Peralta, either thinking there were two outs or that Pickrel wouldn't catch it, was already standing on third. Pickrel flipped the ball to Alexi Casilla who stepped on the bag and doubled up Peralta.

It was only fitting the game ended with a double play. Tim Lahey gave up a one out single to Ron Davenport in the ninth, but got Eric Nielsen to hit a grounder to third, in which Jose Leger was able to go around the horn to turn the double play and end the game.

The Miracle, who moved to 15-9, took a 2-0 lead in the third. Pickrel led off with a single to right. He stole second and Erold Andrus walked. After a walk to Kyle Geiger loaded the bases, Leger's fielders choice scored Pickrel. Justin Arneson's infield single scored Andrus.

The Blue Jays got one back in the third, when with the bases loaded and one out, Davenport singled home Christian Snavely. Kyle Aselton, however, got one of the big double plays on the night to end the inning.

Brock Peterson gave the Miracle a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the third when he slugged his second homer in three games, a two run shot over the left field wall.

The Blue Jays got to Aselton in the fourth when Dustin Majewski singled with one out. With two outs Snavely doubled to right that scored Majewski to make it 4-2.

Aselton got into trouble in the fifth when he loaded the bases with one out. Hill came into the game and promptly got Peralta to ground into an inning ending double play. Hill went 3.2 innings of relief allowing one unearned run on two hits while walking one and striking out three to earn his first victory of the season.

The Blue Jays made it 4-3 in the seventh when Eric Nielsen reached on a two base fielding error by Pickrel in right. A single to center by Robinson Diaz scored Nielsen, but the Miracle defense was steady the rest of the way.

The same two teams play Tuesday morning at 10:35 a.m. in the finale of the series. The Miracle send LHP John Thomas (1-0, 3.86) to the hill against Blue Jays RHP Orlando Trias (2-1, 4.71).
